The market for used Porsches is small compared to most any other car.

I agree with most of you and decided to pass on the supercharge one and keep looking for a clean history 4s cabrio manual in a cool color.

BUT, be warned, that supercharger will be lot's of $$$$$$$ to maintain and repair, not to mention the extra wear/tear it puts on the engine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Dear all,
i am spending more time recently on this forum than anywhere else. So thanks for whom spend energy to keep the forum running!
I am seriously considering to buy my first 996 and I am reading a lot about what to avoid and what to buy.
I was originally looking for a Cabrio 4S manual, but I ended up being captured by these post
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1179747
and start to seriosuly consider this car.
spoke with the owner who seems very reasonable. Went through the decision of exchanging the engine and so on... what is your genuine opinion about this car?
I am looking for a driving car that will be used mostly during week end and sometime during week day.
Manual and Cabrio a must.
Thanks for your opinions
That car looks like a really nice car.Was kept indoors a lot and well kept.
I am usually a gambler and take chances but I think people who add superchargers to an m96 are nuts I would never consider it and I bet that guy is having difficulty selling the car.
you have to research the build thoroughly and talk to the guy who built the engine and get copies of the receipts. Get detailed photos of the carbon fiber for cracks. It’s crazy expensive to fix.
if you are new to 996’s get the 4s cabrio. That’s an excellent car that is not expensive and really cool and uncommon. You don’t want to start off 996 Life (which is hard enough) on a highly modified one. It’s going to be trouble. So many questions on that supercharged car. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have tons of automotive experience do your own work and do several hours of due diligence.
thats my opinion. Good luck!
Agree with others. Don't start with a modified car like this.
My first was a C4, Cab, Tip. Honestly, if that car would have been manual, I would have kept it. I believe the c4s has the best of both worlds. Wide body plus the turbo front bumper.
Look for maintenance, well kept vehicles. A must is a PPI. A @ $200 inspection can save you a lot!
Budget to do the IMS, RMS, clutch, etc. At the end of the day, these are 15+ year old cars and they will need some things done.
Do your homework, be patient. We're coming into the summer and many Cabs will be coming up for sale.
At the end of the day, buy what you want. Dont buy what the forum tells you to buy. its your money and your choice. Take the entire package into consideration and make your offer accordingly. The market for used Porsches is small compared to most any other car. The buyer dictates price and you have many choices. Dont get in a hurry or jump into any car too quickly.
Everyone knows the risky issues surrounding these cars. Im becoming more convinced that luck plays a bigger role than many state. You can do everything the forum advises and still lose an engine. You can ignore all the advice and get a super deal too. Ive seen all of the above in the past 3 years of 996 ownership.
If you like it, buy it!
BUT, be warned, that supercharger will be lot's of $$$$$$$ to maintain and repair, not to mention the extra wear/tear it puts on the engine.
Personally, it's a hard pass for me!
Yeah unless 30k is your max budget but even then I'd opt.for a well sorted, unmodified and maintained example. Plus looking at cabs should generally get you a better deal.
Guys! What an amazing welcome to this forum and thanks a lot for so many comments!

I will give a serious look to the post that have been added to this thread.
Again thanks! This forum is just amazing.
I have been a motorbiker for almost 20 years, and have crossed Sahara twice on my bmw. Now time to think for my first Cabrio Porsche where I can fit my wife and daughter
Not any specific restriction on budget. I just wanna find the right car. Despite I am fascinated by a Turbo cab I find the aesthetic of 4s almost better than turbo to me....
All the best
Gian
I would open your search to a cabby TT if one comes up in the same price range, 4S usually command a premium
But I've seen nice TT cabs go for peanuts comparatively.
Good luck and welcome to the madness!
My youngest daughter is a very petite 5'4 and cannot ride in the back 0of my 03 Cab.. those seats are for insurance purposes.. LOL
She has done it but said you should only put someone you hate in that back seat.
