Also the engine looks like he used 2 bottles of Armor All to shine it up.

Then we have an IMSB change followed shortly thereafter by an engine rebuild.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought I might never get back in the 996 game, but here I am shopping again. Looked at turbos for a bit, but I honestly think I'll get more driving time/fun for my needs out of a Carrera. Anywho, I did a lot of work on my last car dropping the engine to do the IMS/AOS/WP/RMS/Chain guides/etc and am looking to avoid doing it again for at least a few years on the next buy. So I really want to find something with either documentation of this work or a Porsche replacement engine which I think would cover most of these items as well.
This one popped up on ebay yesterday:

He calls out a rebuilt engine 15k ago. Tried to get him to send me the details but he said he'd only provide it to the buyer. I think he just doesn't want to deal with the hassle of questions from people. Funny thing is, he originally posted the car with a list of the work done and prices over the years - then removed the image. I picked it out of my browser cache to share here. It does show ~12k spent on a rebuild including the clutch and flywheel at 75k in 2014. Curious if anyone has speculation about what that would get you done in 2014?
I called Zims as a receipt from them is shown in another image, they did the LN IMS bearing in 2014 shortly before the rebuild, but they have no notes about the rebuild. They also saw the car in 2018 where low coolant was reported but they didn't find anything wrong.
All that said, I don't think there's a way I could put a bid on it without seeing the actual receipts for work done. I think the seller is assuming it's going to move quickly - he initially said I could come look at the car later in the week if it doesn't sell on ebay. Might take him up if it comes to that. Sure do enjoy that color (arena red?):
Why wouldn't he just post the info/relevant image in the original listing instead of just not sending it and claiming to only send to the buyer ?
I noticed ambers + fried eggs, four spoke wheel, 'unfinished' interior trim makes me think it's an early 99.
He actually has the original CDR220 faceplate glove which is rare. And given his background garage photo (humble brag) I'd be curious what his hangup is
The phone number is a dealership. He probably doesn't want to give you the records for liability reasons because you are just a prospective buyer at this point. His boss probably made him pull the records.
For 12k my guess is that the rebuild was the chain guides failing or intermix. Thats not a full rebuild I don't think
Very pretty car! Some dubious statements in the e-bay ad, $9300 for a clutch? $52K in maintenance since 2009? Ouch! And the engine compartment armor all looks like they just sprayed it on over the dirt. Walk, no, trot away from this one.
This is the second or third time it's been listed. Price started out higher.
there must be something going on that is holding the car back....with a good color, supposed engine work and a very reasonable price for that mileage it should be sold.
you would need a lot more info. Your first clue is the misdiagnosis of blown headgaskets in 2009. A few months later they figured out it really had a cracked head. Then we have an IMSB change followed shortly thereafter by an engine rebuild.
If the engine was a rebuilt unit unit that would be one thing. But, if the IMSB went bad and they rebuilt the original engine who knows what damage exists tha any not have been addressed.
"new rebuilt engine"...
Interior "Tan"
"$52,000 has been spent on service since 2009"...
Could have had 2 FSI engines for that...
$9300 for a clutch... the guy must be a tool...
Threw the VIN into VINWiki app where it showed it had sold on 7/1/2011 and Registered in North Richland Hills, TX. That was the only info the app reported, which I'm sure it pulled from public records.
Did not realize it had been listed a few times already. Will definitely add a completed listing search to my standard review of ebay listings. Here they are:

Agreed, the list of maintenance work is pretty concerning. The amount of clutches that were done seems like a red flag too. He said it was owned by a single lady from Southlake who was upgrading to a 997. Maybe she didn't have good clutch habits?
I'm gonna guess it doesn't sell this week and maybe I'll get a chance to actually see the paperwork in person.
