Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check when i get home' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check when i get home' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Not normally a problem, but Lenn can repair the cam bearings if necessary.

I assume that since my cam buckets are scrambled, They would need to replace them before ever using the head on a running engine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
so I am wondering if there is a way to differentiate right from left? I just had my heads done and would like to confirm. I think they are mated from what I have read. I don't want the wrong cover on the wrong head. Also, does anyone know how to tell if a chain tensioner /guide needs replacing? I am replacing a couple and may just buy the other two but would still like like to know, Thanks!
The heads and covers have matching 4-digit numbers on them to make sure they are paired correctly. The cam bores are machined while bolted together, so you must use the matching set.
When I received my educational 2.7L head from the dismantlers, it came completely disassembled.
It has been reassembled-disassembled about 6 times now.
I just looked to see if my head/cover matches, and I cant find a 4 digit number anywhere.
Where should I look?
Id just like to confirm the dismantler didnt scramble the covers in case I ever sell the head to some who plans to actually use it.
I assume that since my cam buckets are scrambled, They would need to replace them before ever using the head on a running engine.

Now I'm I'm wondering...what if I sent the heads to Hoffman with the covers switched and they machined em that way...then if I switch them back I screw things up..lol. hopefully they are paired up correctly. I will check when I get home. Does anyone know where I can find the matching numbers?
Thanks, I now can see the number on the head.
Im not able to find it on the cover though.
I guess Ill have to run it through the parts cleaner.
I did look closely and the remaining sealant from the factory matches.
Where it is missing from the head, it is on the cover, and vice versa.
Im certain that it is a match, but matching numbers would be nice too.
the part number for the cover is actually on the cover right above where it is on the head. At least for me it was. Parallel to each other. One on the head one on the cam cover just a few Centimeters apart.
I’m sure that Hoffman would match the numbers.
Other places might not, but Hoffman really knows what they’re doing, or else Jake wouldn’t use them.
He would do his own head work if Len couldn’t be trusted.
I’m pretty sure I remember Jake saying Len was who to send heads to.
Not normally a problem, but Lenn can repair the cam bearings if necessary. And told me he had a process/method of fixing miss-matched heads/covers should someone loose the matching cover.
I didn't inquire on the price of this service as I was just there with a friend to pick up his heads who was building a 3.4-to 3.8 build. I normally use a friend and local head service shop owner for my needs. He is not an "M96 head specialist" like Lenn is, but very competent none the less.
