Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I want to test live at the connector (plug, radiator fan) to make sure it's getting the electrical juice it needs, before I install a new (or repaired) fan.
Leading evidence: 'Repair ) fan' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check voltages' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

The angled bed of nails portion of the clips will allow you to pierce the insulation to check voltages.

You might want to disconnect the battery before you cut the wire, bare things back, connect Battery again, then test, making sure none of the wires touch each other.

So the car will be running, the A/C on, the relay clicked on, the other fan running, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to test live at the connector (plug, radiator fan) to make sure it's getting the electrical juice it needs, before I install a new (or repaired) fan. The old fan is already removed, so I just want to test the electric at the plug hanging there.
The connector is 3-prong male and tight enuf that it's almost impossible to stick multimeter probes (or even alligator clips) in there without touching each other. If they touch each other, then that creates a short right? So how to prevent the short?
So the car will be running, the A/C on, the relay clicked on, the other fan running, etc. At that point can I just set the multimeter to test voltage (12v scale) and stick the leads in there trying to touch their corresponding pins? Do I need to worry about shorting? Thanks.
If all other correct methods fail. Come back a good ways along the wire before the connecter and cut the wire. Splice it open to see the 3 wires, bare them back and then test. Then bare the other cut part back, twist them together correctly and tape them up or use connectors to join the wire again. Well as they say, there is more than one way of skinning a cat. Not the best I know but it can be done that way. You might want to disconnect the battery before you cut the wire, bare things back, connect Battery again, then test, making sure none of the wires touch each other.
Thanks, yes I just looked, and the wires look long enuf to do that, so that's what I'll do.
Being my only car, I guess I was avoiding another round of removing the wheel etc. Not a big fan of jacking cars in general.
I've been driving back-n-forth for parts with no front bumper, wheel liner, or right fan for a couple weeks. I tell the officers just think of those exposed radiators as Rolls Royce grills, but I need to get those back on asap.
Ask a phone guy for a set of ABN butt set clips. The angled bed of nails portion of the clips will allow you to pierce the insulation to check voltages.
They do not relieve the problem of shorts if they touch each other, though.
If you have a set of said clips, you can cut down some heat-shrink tubing to make sleeves to reduce the amount of exposed metal...used as-is, they're really easy to short out against each other as well as adjoining pins...
