Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any way to tell the originality of body panels on a 996? Is there a serial number or factory stamp or sticker that indicates originality ? Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andrew

POST 2Original post

Careful inspection for repaint and tool marks may help if the panels are installed. If not it installed it should be easy. Could you explain more?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BMW provided a stamp/decal on each body panel which indicated that is the fender that the car was born with. Does Porsche have a similar procedure to identify orig body parts?

POST 4Original post

Aha. The trunk, engine cover, and drivers door certainly do but I suppose most others would be hard to see w/o some disassembly. I also know that some of the stickers can be reproduced. I will not be taking my front fenders off to check.

POST 5Original post

The best way is to check the fender bolts for tool marks. There is no way if that fender has been taken off or replaced the bolt heads will have marks on them. You can also buy a paint thickness measuring tool they're fairly cheap and start measuring the paint thickness on all the panels. They should be very close to each other. Unless it was re-sprayed.
