After picking up the car with 48k miles which I was very familiar with I took it to my Indy and had all major work done with the ims/rms/clutch/ oil / diff / tranny etc all serviced or fluids replaced preventatively.

Replacing the sumitomos with ps2s should be a nice change.

At time of purchase we agreed if he would ever sell it, I would get first right if refusal at a price we set back then ( it was a very good friend price with a caveat I can never sell it / if I ever wanted to get rid of it he would buy back at the same price I paid.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After many years of thinking about this car I was afforded the opportunity by a very good friend that I had made an agreement with back in 2004 when he bought the car new. At time of purchase we agreed if he would ever sell it, I would get first right if refusal at a price we set back then ( it was a very good friend price with a caveat I can never sell it / if I ever wanted to get rid of it he would buy back at the same price I paid. Fast forward to 2021 mid pandemic. I get a call from my friend that the time has come for me to take the car as he always told me the car was a placeholder for a horse ( he stables and rides semi professionally outside of his day job) and that he found the one we wanted to buy and was time for me to come pick up the car. Its a 2004 c2 all black with PSE, heated sets, leather, really about every option you could want ( no Bose ). full service and books / records also knowing my buddy is as meticulous with his things, I was confident Id have no issues. Since the pandemic I have been commuting between central Nc and South FL every couple of weeks and my trusty g12 7 series cruises the near 1500 mile trip with ease. After picking up the car with 48k miles which I was very familiar with I took it to my Indy and had all major work done with the ims/rms/clutch/ oil / diff / tranny etc all serviced or fluids replaced preventatively. Tires were about 2 yrs old and relatively fresh with no concerns so I have been driving it long haul the last 3 months. Putting about 8k miles since I picked her up. Time for new tires this week ! Replacing the sumitomos with ps2s should be a nice change.
only items Ive tackled myself so far were keeping the CDR-23 and changer , upgrading all the speakers ( left hi if Nokia door subs alone ) , added an isimple bluetooth/streaming box so I had something to stream other than the sublime, house of pain, and cranberries cd my buddy left in the car
.
Thinking about a set of bbs rims for her with the new tires..
I know I have this disease bad already .Ive already told my wife and started setting aside the funds for a turbo in the next couple of years. Ive also seriously considered just dumping the 7 series and moving to a panamera..all good problems to have.
Thanks to those that commented. The car continues to deliver a big grin whenever I drive it. New tires to be installed next week so I am looking forward to how she drives on fresh tires. As this car has spent a lot of time on the highway, the hood has some chips / paint isn’t perfect so I am contemplating having the chips and such corrected then a clear bra. Anyone else go this route?
I had paint correction done at Porsche Dealership in Syracuse, NY.
It isn't cheap. Also took a nearly month.
But the technology that they have is not matched by anyone in the area. Not to mention a very detailed labor/parts documentation.
Here is a video of when I picked it up.

Congrats on the 996. Looks awesome with the wheels as is! Interested in hearing what you do about the paint chips. I suspect we all have them after 18-20 years. I got my share as well.
Yep, it's easy to get the Porsche bug. I understand there is no known cure...
