Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I dont think there were any big DME or drastic engine changes during that time.
Leading evidence: 'Replace during' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace during' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I believe it should be. The 2003 is a 3.6 Vario Cam Plus engine and Most electronics so the DME should work and the electronics are the same. There may be a few other issues to be worked out in the swap.
Good to hear (so far). The donor engine is the S model (355HP) compared to my engine's 320HP, but the donor is from a car that flooded and might not be worth correcting, but swapping engines seems like a great way to bump HP for not a lot of bucks (after selling my 40K mile engine from the '03)
Anybody know an IMS failure that did this swap?
A LOT of views, but nobody talking. Is an engine swap THAT rare?
I'm going to talk with the local shop that is expert in these things tomorrow, but wanted input for in case it isn't possible for some reason.
Thanks. I did a Search for Dundon and came up on a couple dozen threads, but do you have a contact for him that can cut through my searching all of them?
That's a totally different thought, for sure. The situation is that I might...might...buy a water car and if I do, it's either a fix what got wet, or part it out. IF I part it, then the engine becomes a donor.
I don't really have much interest in building my C2 engine because it does exactly what it's supposed to do and I don't track it. Good info, though.
Money-wise, it would pay to do a donor car replacement, but otherwise I wouldn't need to do it.
I dont think there were any big DME or drastic engine changes during that time. Pelican seems to agree

OK, assuming that the water damage didn't affect the engine that much, how much would a 40K mile 3.6 be worth? I'm looking at a quick sale, not premium. About the 3.6L, there is NO water damage at all; pristine
that's an option, but getting an extra 35HP has it's fun factor, too. At this point, I'm not even sure what the engines sell for. Anybody have experience buying or selling one?
The engine would be a part of the whole car that I'll be looking at this week, and the car might be reasonably repairable, but if it isn't then the engine swap would take the sting out of the purchase, and the rest of the car would be parted out as well.
Here's a NEW thought. I have my eye on a 996 that has received a supercharger and methanol intercooler system. HP unknown by the selling dealer, but north of 500 would be reasonable, I think. Lots of questions for the dealer, but what do you know about that having been done to 3.6L engines? IMSB and clutch have been done, of course. Car is also in like-new condition, which suggests that the mods were done for ego instead of for tracking.
Supercharging, good, bad, or other?
