Suggestion
Cold start kind of scared me as you think engine is running on limp mode with a bad coil.

Suggestion
No longer is the engine "torqueing" when accelerating hard, it does not take the "double set" going into corners and shifting is good, but it was good before.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

These are the OE Replacements that others sell. The part number listed at Amazon matches the one used for the 996 motor mounts at CarID.com. Pretty good price if you ask me.

What do you think? Big difference vs. the old mounts?
I've got an 03 c2 that the previous owner took very good care of, but I did not see any motor mount replacement in the service history. I'm thinking its time judging by the difference many people report...
Sorry for the delay as I finally just drove the car for the first time. I noticed a clear difference in the car's behavior. The passenger seat would vibrate a fair amount while idling at a stoplight and that has now almost completely disappeared.
Additionally, I did a 1st gear pull to redline. Previously when I'd do this and shift to 2nd, the car would shake forward and back in a chugging motion, acting as if the chassis couldn't keep up with the car. I've tested this scenario many times before as I wanted to rule out any possibility of it simply being a sloppy shift on my part. Now the car just pulls hard and strong when shifting to 2nd in this same scenario. It's a huge difference.
Additionally, my car has always had a notchy 2nd gear, particularly when the car hasn't been driven all day. I'm gonna have to monitor this aspect a little more closely before I can make a final determination, but today it seemed like the notchiness was reduced. It was enough that I didn't feel compelled to skip 2nd gear while waiting for the car to warm up.
My last observation is of my 3rd to 4th gear shift. Previously the car could be an angel or devil with this. Sometimes it would be super smooth, other times not. Typically I'd have to really slow down my clutch release to get the most smoothness. This behavior also appears to have subsided during my test drive today.
All in all, I'm very happy with the results, especially considering it didn't take much time at all to install the mounts myself. I don't have any maintenance history on my car but they do have the Porsche Design logo and did not look fresh. I suspect they are original to the car (built in late '98 and the mounts had the old part numbers ending in -06).
No apology necessary. Appreciate your detailed feedback. I don't have a ton of vibration, IMO anyway, but the shifting smoothness/improvement would be a nice little side effect to this work for me. Least I hope...
Thanks again!
I had also ordered a new expansion tank to tackle both jobs at the same time. That arrived yesterday, i will be swapping them out either today or tomorrow. Will report back monday. I have read alot of good things about the F1 mounts.
The mounts were a breeze to swap out, but the expansion tank was a pain in the arrsss to get out. Putting the new one in was a lot easier. Total job with the mounts and tank was about 3 hours, 2 beers, and a few bruised knuckles.
As to comparison to my old mounts is like night and day. There is a lot more vibration compared to the worn out OE mounts. I guess the best way to describe is like switching your hand drill to hammer drill mode. Cold start kind of scared me as you think engine is running on limp mode with a bad coil. But definitely better shifts and also you can feel the power getting put down to the wheels harder.
Thanks, I've heard enough to just buy them full pop at Pelican Parts. I'll be placing an order for these mounts and a bunch of other things in the next days. Thank you again for your viewpoint on this work.
I just placed an order for a pair. Great price. Hope mine aren't out of stock. Thanks for the info. OP. My '99 C2 is going to enjoy fresh engine mounts.
I bought the last two of the first round, they never shipped and on July 4th I got an email from Amazon asking if I still wanted them, said yes, and they shipped on last Friday and were delivered on Sunday by Amazon prime. I guess Amazon puts the screws to their vendors, I'm going to say they didn't have mine, but had to hold up to the deal. No big deal for me, I'll install them soon now that I have them. Going to do it with the oil pan.
You would think since Rein Automotive is both the manufacturer and Amazon seller, they would have more in stock. Maybe they are only producing this part in small batches now.
According to Amazon, mine are supposed to be delivered on Monday, I guess we will see.

I will see how these ride as I may send my old set to Function First for a rebuild.
I just installed them.....have to say that the ones I took off my 99 with 36K miles appear to be stiffer by a small amount compared to the new ones. I'm almost certain they were original as the aluminum has a stamping of 3 over 99, which I assume means they were made the third week of 1999, and the new ones had a stamping of something like 15 over 13 and then they had a build sticker on them of July 2014.
I will report back after I drive it like I stole it.
Drove the car last night, and I have to say that it's quite an improvement. No longer is the engine "torqueing" when accelerating hard, it does not take the "double set" going into corners and shifting is good, but it was good before. Well worth doing it, I will throw the old ones in the garbage!
For the first time the rear end feels more like it would like to step out vs. before, I like that!
A few months ago, I changed what I thought were the original OEM mounts at 94,000 miles. One of the exhaust tips was hanging lower than it should have. I replaced them with a new pair of Function First mounts. I decided on the FF from the users postings and since I do not track my DD, I thought it would be a nice performance improvement by adding an extra 30 mental horsepower.
At first I noticed an immediate and dramatic difference in the cabin and shifting action, as expected considering the original mounts were shot. It eliminated the small but noticeable engine idle lumpiness that came through the shift ****, shifting became more precise and direct, and a higher pitch engine noise surfaced in the cabin. I lowered the rear seat backs just to hear more of that motor. Plus, when I would start the engine to let it warm up there was a droning that sounded cool and powerful. I loved it.
After a couple of months I began noticing more vibrations and newly acquired rattles, especially above 4000rpms. Sunroof components and center console began to rattle, rather annoyingly. I started tightening things and Dynamating and that reduced most but not all of the newly acquired rattles. While the suspension, steering and body felt solid, the interior was beginning to validate the criticisms of the 996s plasticky interior.
Then I saw this post and decided to try them out as a cheap experiment. I ordered them while they were in out of stock status. They arrived two weeks later. I removed the FFs and installed the Reins yesterday. I started the engine and the cave-like rumble disappeared. Driving, the rattling disappeared. The vibration disappeared even in the steering wheel. The engine noise was slightly attenuated, but still prominent. The shifting action seems a little looser but Im saying it rather than actually experiencing it.
Of course Im only referring to my experience. Your results will probably be different. Especially if your planning on tracking. If so the FF mounts are great!
I don't plan on tracking my car, but I was wondering how the FF mounts would feel. I am sure I will notice a huge difference installing the new Rein mounts.
I would stick with stock engine mounts if you're not going to track it. Otherwise you're going to hear and feel everything which might get old on a dd or long drives.

I agree
I'm currently running FF mounts and one of the first ones to do so. I also have Torque Solutions Poly mounts but they are sitting on the shelf. I would say if you want a refined ride(ala 991) and have stock suspension, you would probably be best to stick to OEM or non-poly mounts. OTOH, if you want a more raw and less refined experience like older 911's and have upgraded aftermarket suspension(besides ROW), then any one of the poly mounts might suit you.
In my case I bought practically new OEM turbo mounts and it really didn't live up to my expectations so got the FF's and couldn't be happier.
Remember boys, it's all about give and take and compromises on anything that's not active. If you want active motor mounts, you'll need to get the newer models.
Got my Amazon mounts and installed them. I thought my original mounts were fine since my exhaust pipes were even and no major complaints about the engine vibrations. Since amazon mounts are pretty cheap, I decided to give it a try.
I was wrong. The old mounts rubber has stretched approximately 3/4 inch. Installed the new mounts in and the car feels alot smoother and exhaust tips fit flush with the bumper opening.
I think the car handles better too with the rear feels more planted.
