Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, After a decently long search I think I found a 911 Turbo that has piqued my interest. My apologies as I come from BMW and I'm new to Porsche but I stumbled, actually my mother in law did, on this nice 911 Turbo local to me. Link below. Due to its low mileage, I'm not really sure what to specifically look for nor do I have a great understanding of what it's worth because the market is all over the place. If there's a buyers guide link or forum to a spreadsheet of purchase prices (as BMW forums often have) or anything helpful floating around I would appreciate a link. This a 2004 cab, grey on grey, with 17k miles. Florida and cali car. Clean Carfax. Shockingly, my wife likes it. Here is the car I'm referring to: http://www.searsimports.com/auto/use...05-mn/3573619/ Thanks for the help in advance. Hoping I can get into this car. Sorry just noticed this is the technical guide forum. Sorry if I'm wrong place.

POST 2Original post

For that price I'd rather get a higher mileage 997 turbo. 40 is my cutoff for me at least to get into a 996 turbo. It seems like a nice low mileage example if you don't mind paying for it.

POST 3Original post

It does look very nice. That's a well-optioned 996 turbo. I think you'd have trouble finding a nice 997 turbo cabriolet in that price range. Anything in that price range will have high miles and probably a few other stories too. A good example with moderate mileage will be closer to $70K (give or take $5K depending on options, condition, etc.).

Jeez, alp, but it says the original MSRP was $128k. So, obviously it's worth it. mnbart: I think the price is a bit on the high side, but not crazy high, especially given that it appears to be a Porsche franchise dealer plus the ultra low miles. Both of those factors normally result in a significant increase in the asking price. However, I personally don't think either of those factors add much to the true value of the car. Once you buy the car, it isn't really going to matter who sold it to you (I assume it's not going to have any CPO or other significant warranty). Also, a well kept car with 50,000 or 60,000 miles is going to be just as reliable as this one - and possibly more reliable. This car has sat around dormant most of its life, and the general consensus is that lack of use is not good for a Porsche. A car that has been taken out and exercised regularly may be/probably will be less prone to mechanical/electrical gremlins. alpine003 is saying is that if you are going to spend $57k or $58k on this car, you should strongly consider paying just a little more and picking up a 997 turbo in that 50,000 or 60,000 mile range. I think Dennis is saying that it will take at least $65k to get you into a 997 Turbo (and maybe closer to $70K), but that's not a whole lot more than the asking price for this car.

POST 5Original post

If I have $60,000 to spend on a 911, I would seriously be looking at 2009 (or newer) vehicles. I see a few 2009 Carrera S Cabs with under 40k miles in that price range. The 2004 you found does look like a fine example. Will you keep it for 10 years? If not (or you're not sure) I would go for a newer model. 2009 Carrera S has 385 HP, the 2004 Turbo has 415 HP. 385 horses will get the job done.

POST 7Original post

I agree and would do the same in his shoes. 385 is plenty of "get up" and I think the 997.2 is a great looking car. If you are fixated on a turbo I would take the above advice and look at a higher mileage 997 turbo for a few thousand more. Spending $60,000 on a 996 turbo no matter how nice it is just doesn't make any sense to me. Let us know what you decide and welcome to Porsche ownership!

POST 8Original post

Price does seem a little high but it looks like a great car. I'm sure it will sell to another person if you don't go for it. It's getting more difficult all the time to find unmolested low mileage Porsches. Just make sure you get a thorough PPI if you decide that it could be the car for you.

POST 9Original post

I would only consider paying a premium price for a low mileage car if I was also planning on keeping the miles low thus preserving the uniqueness of the particular car. If you are looking specifically for very low miles, this is probably a good candidate. As others note, you can purchase significantly newer cars for $60K.

POST 10Original post

Seems like Everybody has Pretty Much said what i thought also, definitely seems a lil' high for That car but it also looks like it was well taken car of! If YOU like it, then go for it! Keep us informed! GL!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you to everyone who pitched in on advice. I really appreciate it. Really like how helpful everyone is on this forum. I'll keep you all updated on how this goes. I'm going to reach out to someone I know who works there to see how low I can knock down the price. Looking to give it a thorough test drive this coming week and I'll def get a PPI. I will be happy if i get it for under $55K. Now to decide whether to sell my E36M3...

Welcome to the 996 Forum there's a 996 Turbo forum, they may be helpful if you want to ask opinions regarding technical data, pros and cons of this cars. I think the price is right specially for a low miles Turbo, but on the other hand for that amount you can buy a 997 Carrera 4S 2010 or younger, great engine and enough horse power. POST 13Original post

I think I know how you feel. The turbo is a special car - regardless of model year. Even though you can get a naturally aspirated 997 for less than a 996 turbo, given the choice I too would get a turbo.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 12436565

If you want a perfect 996 Turbo cab, this is the car. But if you plan on putting on a lot of miles, you can save some $$ and go with a very nice car for $10k less. Also, historically, 911 coupe's hold their value better than cab's, so paying a big premium for a cab might not draw in a premium when you go to sell it. Have you driven a turbo?

POST 15Original post

Check out this coupe: https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...l#post12439289

POST 16Original post

Also a 2003 996 turbo coupe in the rennlist classifieds with 16k miles. All the goodies and for $50,000 if you aren't set on a cab, and as stated above coupes hold their value better than cabs.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took some of the advice above and test drove a 997 C4S. Really like the way it drives. The other dealer with the turbo wasn't willing to come done much which makes the decision a little easier. Thanks again for your input, all. This one to be exact: https://minneapolis.porschedealer.co...85636/info.php
