Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So a dead branch broke and fell on my car this past weekend. Autobody shops are quoting $1300+ for a replacement. I found a used on on ebay but it is local pick up only. What is the best way to get this hood up to CT from AL safely without shelling out big bucks? Other option is to wait for a local one pop up and pick it up with a U haul van. replacement hood: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tchlink:top:en car hood damage limited to hood only.

POST 2Original post

DUDE... I tried to ship a fender and a hood...the risk was way more than I was willing to take on.... HOWEVER! contact your local frieght company, there are always lots of these places in every city, they often times will even crate it for you (its not cheap, but might surprise you) call 3-4 of them and let them know what you are trying to do, at least one will give you an idea and the feeling to either move forward or bag the idea...BWM dealers often have HUGE boxes...I mean HUGE! as do places that sell excercise equipment and body shops...to name a few if you can crate it yourself it will be a lot less $ (or have someone do it as a favor on "the other end") large QTY of foam can be had for free at furnature retailers corners are the hardest to protect..very thick cardbpord or wood with foam liners and protective tape on the paint

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I knew this tree needed pruning but did not realize it belonged to me. The fence installed by the PO did not include the tree since it is right on the property line. I thought it belonged to the next door neighbor or I would have had it pruned already. The cheapest quote I got on a primed hood is $374.82 shipped at car parts wholesale. Then, there is cost of painting it but it will be dent free. One of the reason I am keeping this car is because it is accident free since I bought it new. Just venting about the PO making a stupid decision to fence out his own tree and not telling the next owner..

I thought of that but it probably would be at the bottom of the luggage pile since it is so wide. I would hate to get into a damage claim with Greyhound freight. They may declare bankruptcy!

POST 7Original post

+1 on greyhound - I know plenty of people say they are great but I have zero confidence and no desire to "try" so start lining up the Rennlisters for a group pass bucket line, each member takes it 50 miles

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can still drive the car so not that worried about it. Have to spend money on pruning a 100 feet tall maple tree that I just came into possession of.

POST 9Original post

LOL - damn tress wont stay in their own yard !

POST 10Original post

It hopped the fence one night. Most states if it hangs over the line you can prune it back to the line no matter if the neighbor thinks it needs it or not.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8898373

Your are correct but it is the cost associated with pruning the tree. Why should one be responsible for maintenance costs to a piece of property that you do not own?

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 8898418

Because a limb can break off and can cause damages to your..... oh wait.

Thanks Ferd. I now get to deal with two condo associations and this house. Joy Joy...

Yeah but then the neighbor pays for it. Oh wait, it actually my friggin tree...

POST 16Original post

Home owner and a landlord, its the same, they both need fixing..... renting has it's perks.

POST 17Original post

I know people that have shipped large parts with greyhound, Pros: price, size Cons: slow, $300 max value, bus station might not be close, in with other luggage, no tracking

POST 18Original post

have one of them paintless dent guys look at it, I have seen them do some pretty awesome stuff

POST 19Original post

Try uShip.com You can get multiple bids from freight vendors

POST 20Original post

also HUGE price break if you pick it up at the "dock" or freight company so they dont have to transport it from the dock on a small truck to a residecial address... I have dropped off at the dock too, saves about 1/2!

POST 21Original post

Try OnTrac. I am shipping a bumper from Orange County to the Bay Area for $139 door to door. I checked UPS and they were like $300

POST 22Original post

Try using an auto shipping company. They can fit the hood while still carrying max capacity cars. One of the RL members shipped a hardtop that way. Very inexpensive.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All great suggestions! Thanks. I have a lead on a CF hood local for $300. Can you paint carbon fiber?

POST 24Original post

yea, not sure what it involves though to do it right

POST 25Original post

Yes, my Pcar hood is painted CF. Check the smoothness of the weave/clear coat. Any irregularities will show thru to the paint. Great weight savings.
