Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Going through service records I found this entry from March of 2020, "Misfire codes P300, P301, P302 and P303, cleared codes, test drove at length, if issues return recommend replacement of bank 1 variable life solenoid valve/solenoid."
Leading evidence: 'Recommend replacement of bank 1 variable life solenoid valve/solenoid."' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend replacement of bank 1 variable life solenoid valve/solenoid."' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Changing the coil packs isn't going to solve this issue.

CarFax had service records including every oil change from new at California dealer until 2017 then indy Porsche shop in Florida.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just bought a 48,000 mile 2003 Cabriolet last weekend. Flew down to Ft. Myers to get her and drove back to Pensacola (580 miles). No CEL. Driven to work and back every day since. On three cold starts, immediate CEL. Code reader puts out misfires in cylinders 1, 2 and 3. Don't hear/feel any rough running. Code reader puts out that common fix is air/oil separator. Not sure home much I trust that diagnosis. New air/oil separator is not expensive, but fairly complex to replace. Suggestions?
Normally misfires point to faulty coil packs and/or plugs. But entire bank#1 may allude to a different problem. You can rule out a faulty AOS with manometer.
WOW! Bought a car and now it is throwing misfires on Bank 1. Change all coils and plugs. Replace the MAF sensor. Install new air filter. Smoke test the vacuum system. Get a good mechanic lined up. Empty your wallet and break out the charge card. You're going to need it.
Uh-oh. Here comes the chorus of "Did you get a PPI?" "You should have gotten a PPI?" responses.
On the problem, actual stored fault codes are only part of the story diagnostically. You'll need something like durametric to dig in further and look at cam deviation, pending codes, and other things. Changing the coil packs isn't going to solve this issue.
If youre mechanically inclined, spend some time searching here and youll find many threads about your problems. Coils, plugs, AOS, MAF are easy.
if youre not, then find/search for an independent shop competent in Porsche 996s.
Did not get a PPI. Three owner 48,000 mile vehicle. CarFax had service records including every oil change from new at California dealer until 2017 then indy Porsche shop in Florida. Actual receipts since 2017. Long talk with the mechanic who serviced the car since 2017 included IMSB upgrade. Coil packs and plugs replaced in 2019. Took my $100 code reader along. No code or pending codes.
If I had a dollar for every time someone said to replace a plugs and coils to fix their CEL, Id have probably $10.
If its all on one bank, then it could be VarioCam, could be an intake manifold vacuum leak.
I agree with Mike....Variocam...could be the solenoid, no? One other thing is one of the timing gears slipped on shaft...this happened on a rebuilt motor I had in a boxster once.
Since last post about 15 starts. CEL two times on start up. Going through service records I found this entry from March of 2020, "Misfire codes P300, P301, P302 and P303, cleared codes, test drove at length, if issues return recommend replacement of bank 1 variable life solenoid valve/solenoid."
