And given that the PCCM+ was designed to work with the Bose system but with the Bose amp, I assume feeding the speakers directly with the speaker-level output would not be recommended either.

Next I just need to finish repairing the carnage on the head unit side as the wiring there took more of a beating.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been reading through the various PCCM+ threads but curious if anyone has successfully set one up with an aftermarket amp. I can't remember which thread I was in but there was discussion of the PCCM+ possibly having preamp line-out capabilities versus just speaker-level. Has that been proven or still just wishful thinking? I know LOCs in theory would work but those seem to cause more headaches than they are worth so ideally I'd rather not go down that route. My car is an '03 and it originally had the Bose/MOST system but the previous owner removed the amp/CDR23 and replaced it with a Kenwood amp/head unit. It seems silly to attempt to source a replacement Bose amp when I know those were flaky even when new, much less now that they are almost 20 years old. And given that the PCCM+ was designed to work with the Bose system but with the Bose amp, I assume feeding the speakers directly with the speaker-level output would not be recommended either. Thanks for the input.

As it stands right now, the limited amount of analog HI-FI owners have NOT been successful in getting pre-amp LINE level output from the new PCCM+. The limited few have resorted to Hi/Lo Speaker-to-Line conversion from the B connector output. Not saying it doesn't have the capability, but with the limited amount of technical instructions from Porsche, we have no way of knowing if the feature is even available and if it doesn't offer pre-amp output, does it need to be enabled by a PIWIS or a special keystroke on the front panel of the PCCM+. We just don't know. If I were you, I'd reinstall all the BOSE - MOST components with the new PCCM+ driving the system. That would be the most factory thing to do with your system and help a little with the value on the car too, IMHO. More than likely, the previous owner (fingers crossed) didn't cut the MOST fiber optic cables and maybe they didn't cut the original BOSE amp/speaker cables and connectors? That would be something you'd need to research. Most PCCM+ owners with legacy MOST based systems say they've experienced very little problems with integrating the new PCCM+ into their cars versus owners with the older analog systems (e.g. CDR-220 with HAES M470 amplifier).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great and thanks for the feedback. While the speaker wires at the amp have been cut for the new amp, the harness and plug are all still there so it’ll be easy enough to patch it back together for a stock Bose amp. They’re fairly inexpensive so may be worth a gamble. The MOST cable appears to be intact too. Any idea if the amp has to be coded to the car like the CDR23? Probably doesn’t matter with the PCCM+ since that doesn’t appear to need to be coded. Next I just need to finish repairing the carnage on the head unit side as the wiring there took more of a beating. I think I’ve got it all back together short of a few things that don’t fully make sense but I’ll save that for a separate post. Gotta love sifting through the mind of previous owners to figure out what the hell they were thinking!

The amp doesnt have to be coded because it was originally in the car. As far as I know, the PCCM does care about coding.if you want maps to display in your instrument cluster, the OBC must be coded to allow map data from the PCCM.

The problem is I don't have the amp that came with the car. I'd be attempting to source a used one or going all in and getting a new one. And fair point on the coding for the maps/IC display and you are correct. I was talking more about coding to match the amp, similar to how (I understand) the original CDR23 needed to match the original amp. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, I see. You might be OK, but I am not a 100% sure. I will play around with my PIWIS2 to see if a vin is required for the amp control unit. The good news that the PCCM is plug and play on a MOST system. Make sure to install a SiriusXM receiver when you do the installation. They are about $40 on Amazon.

Thanks and appreciate the insight. Let me know if you some across anything in PIWIS. I have an SXM receiver sitting on the work bench, ready to go in once I get started.

Here are a couple of screen shots from PIWIS 2 for the Bose amplifier. As far as I can tell, as long as the amplifier was initialized to the original coding, you should be good to go. I dont see a field where you need a vin into the new control unit. Its really hard to tell without having the tester plugged into your old port.

I received information from Porsche that it is only possible for the cars 2003+, so I assume only for the cars with MOST.
