My gbox will be going back together in the next couple of weeks. Started getting a whining noise while on steady throttle. 35k miles. On tear down only found a number of worn bearings but nothing drastic. Looking for any recommendations of mechanical u/g�s we should do while we�re in there. I was getting some resistance in the 1 - 2 upshift. Read somewhere to add shims to prevent future 2nd gear pop-out. My tranny builder says the 1-2 upshift issue is more likely cable related. Comments???

If it's for a 996 Turbo you'll find a lot more knowledge over in the 996 Turbo forum --> https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum-61/ The general consensus for the Turbo G50 gearbox is to reshim to 2003+ spec to avoid 2nd gear popout. Lots of folks change the 1/2/3 ratios to be more useful, which is not cheap. It's a great time to install an LSD, especially if you have any thoughts about going RWD. You can drill the gearbox housing for a GT2 slave conversion, even if you don't do one yet. You can consider installing the parts for a pumped gearbox cooler as used the the GT2. Again even if you don't use it yet, can't install it without pulling the gearbox. The Motorsport shift lever and bracket are really nice upgrade: 996 303 031 9A for the lever and 996 424 165 9F for the shift bracket. Not cheap and can't be done without dismantling the gearbox.
