Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, a new first. I have a 2000 porsche 911 3.4l C2. My center console was working fine and then I locked it, and now it won't open or unlock. Is there a way to force it open without destroying the latch? Thanks in advance Solution, As it turns out operator error. If you put the key in and you are not depressing the button while you do it, and then lift the key up about 2 mm or so, the key will turn and allow to unlock and lock. It was a very light touch.

POST 2Original post

First, try your other key. Second, shoot some WD-40 in there...it could just be stuck. Work the key in and out and try to turn to unlock. A new black leather console lid is something like $700, so be careful.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can push the button, but can't get the key to turn. I will give the WD a try. Thanks

Did the key work previously or is this a new vehicle? Sounds like it could be the console cover was replaced in the past but they didn't exchange the key lock with the one native to your vehicle.

Don't think you can lock the console w/o using the key. Most likely stuck due to lack of use or some failure in the locking mechanism. Worst case: I'd say drill it out and install a button latch replacement from some other car McGuivered to make it work, because I don't want to even think about whether they make replacement locks for the console and what you'd have to pay to "rekey" the lock to match your ignition key. Who needs a TINY locking console in a 996 anyway? All anyone has to do to open it (if they don't care what kinda damage they cause) is use a screw driver to pry and pop it open. LOL!
