Suggestion

My assumption is, if the particles are too small to feel, as you clean off the plug, it is just normal wear.

Anyone driving a 996 should at some point drop the sump, give it a wash, and replace the pickup and original baffle.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. Looking for opinions on my findings from an oil change. It has looked like this the last three changes since I purchased this magnetic drain plug. Ive sent a sample in all 3 times and have resulted in excellent feedback. So, should I still have any concerns here?

POST 2Original post

Hard to see in detail, but if it feels like paste it's normal.

POST 3Original post

Not an expert in this area, but I have the same magnetic drain plug and see the same thing. My assumption is, if the particles are too small to feel, as you clean off the plug, it is just normal wear. When I clean mine off, the spot on the rag simply looks like someone took a pencil and made a mark with it.

POST 4Original post

Here is a link: A closer look at magnetic drain plugs - RevZilla wyovino summed it up right. If it feels like paste, its normal. That was the word I was looking for.

Over time, does a little sludge settle in the sump? I think so. it's normal, and your healthy UOA has to be reassuring. But if you are concerned, inspect it. Anyone driving a 996 should at some point drop the sump, give it a wash, and replace the pickup and original baffle. They've done several revisions, the most current is from 997.2 I believe. With OEM parts and labor, to have that done, plus a borescoping was 750.00 USD.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all. I appreciate the feedback.
