i know some (few) gaskets would use a grease to help seal, but a rubber o-ring?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Next up on the pre-summer maintenance list: oil filler tube install. I have the tube and the o-ring ordered up, and I assumed that I was just going to lube up the o-ring with motor oil, but the dealership added a note that they "highly recommended that you reseal it with a specialized grease when you reapply the O-ring. An 80g tube of that is $50." oompfff.... Is this really needed/necessary? Cheers

POST 2Original post

FWIW I just lubed mine with clean engine oil. I figured that was the life it was going to live in anyway. Slipped right in and no problems leaking. Many miles ago.....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks DB I was of the same thinking. i know some (few) gaskets would use a grease to help seal, but a rubber o-ring?
