Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just took my 99 for a spray car wash and towel off. Hit a long curvy entrance ramp to the expressway and got on it hard through the corners and on to the expressway. Nothing over 5000 rpm though. When I got off at the next exit I noticed a flashing red light at the end of the temp guage. Temp. Needle never left the straight up position (between the 8 and 0. Filled up with gas so I turned the engine off. Restart and the light quit flashing. Drove another 10 to 15 miles home with no light or issues. Any idea what the red flashing light indicates and what action should I take at this point. Thanks for any info.

POST 2Original post

It means you are low on coolant. Take a look at the coolant tank. How long have you had the car?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have only had it since September 14. Had a boxster for 4 years previous to that. I did slowly remove the coolant cap and checked the coolant. I'm able to see the coolant and it seems at a normal level. The car has 28,000 miles but I have not had the coolant changed since buying.

POST 4Original post

There is another function of that light, depending on the frequency of the flashes. Could also mean the engine bay was overly hot/fan wasn't functioning.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was a slow flash. Every 2 seconds or so. Thanks

POST 6Original post

Slow flash is coolant level - i think the fast(er) flash is temp. related. I know because a similar incident happened to me shortly after I topped off my coolant and failed to put the cap on straight (so when the car got warm it lost coolant). I never realized anything was wrong until that light started flashing. Once I re-filled the coolant and screwed the cap on straight, everything was good.

POST 7Original post
