The debacle with the auction in question and a number of similar issues on other recent auctions is putting a serious dent in BAT's credibility as a quality source for used toys.

Suspected cause
I guess it was the low miles more than a partial Aerokit.

The debacle with the auction in question and a number of similar issues on other recent auctions is putting a serious dent in BAT's credibility as a quality source for used toys.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

$34k for an '04 Tip, with (most likely) the worst of the IMS bearings (small single row) and no mention of it being serviced... Perhaps all the talk of bore scoring has eclipsed the dreaded IMSB (to the peril of potential buyers)?
"
This is a great bang for the buck all the Turbo goodies with out the Turbo."
^^ Gotta luv this...(yeah, that includes the Metzger engine...
)
It certainly looks beautiful... buyer beware!
If I were selling mine (ever) I might want the Aerokit to add a lot of $$.
But meh, I'm never selling mine.
There's a nice 996.1 Aerokit for sale locally for just $21K.
I wish I had a spare $21K, I'd pick it up!
Although I kinda want a non-Aerokit too.
If I had lots of spare $$ I'd have them all!
But my spare $$ goes into retirement and savings instead.
IMSwillkillyourfamily is my spirit animal. Love it.
I need to become a contributing member here just to put that quote in my signature.
Beautiful car, amazing money.
I'm about to purchase a 2003 speed yellow with aerokit. I would probably not by the car with out the aero. to me it adds a needed amount of aggression to the NB cars
^^^ Love the front bumper and side skirts, but could do without the wing (same goes for the Taco - just not my style). Whatever floats your boat though - if you're buying it your opinion is the only one that matters! Good Luck with it
Thanks! this is my first pcar. I am a long time vintage bmw guy (m cars, e30, e28, e24, e9). I have only drive this car a short distance, i cant wait to get her Saturday.
recent engine out and all the necessary (rms, ism, aos, clutch, coils, cooling, belts) maintenance done but current owner.
interior is mint, yellow belts, yellow center console, non sport seats. i would love sport seats eventually but i am surprised at how comfortable the standard seats are
agreed. however i live intown atlanta, our roads are terrible. i have 2 other lowered cars this one may stay as is. i do hate wheel gap.
hope i didn't thread jack here with big bird (that is what my GF named her)!
Great pictures
FYI if you ever start tweaking or modifying your Aero, you have the option of three different front splitters.
STD AERO
GT3
CUP CAR
They all are designed for your front bumper cover.
The difference is width and material
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Some like the Aero cars some dont.
It limits the number of cars so in this sense maybe worth more. You dont see many low mile, clean examples of 996 Aero cars for sale.
Summer day
All factory Porsche OE parts. 33k AE car with IMSS done, 996.2 Factory Aero wing and deck, 6GT3 AL Reed Polished wheels, Porsche Crest/Euro GT3 seats,
Porsche Tequipment roll bar,
PSS10s, Fisters etc....
looks like car has the proper GT3 splitter. At least most $$ one.
Plug the front liscense plate holes and if your state requires front plate, get a retractable hidden bracket. do whatever it takes to keep the front bumper the way it is now.😎
Gorgeous example! Congratulations.
Thanks! I live in GA so no front plate
I was surprised that it had the lower slitter as well. I was not sure if there were differences. one more things to like

Hmmmm. Wonder why he removed rear spoiler/decklid?
the yellow Carrera has correct .2 Aerokit decklid. Much better imo.
$34k for a tip? I guess it was the low miles more than a partial Aerokit.
If youre in Edgewood then I think youre fairly close to Autohaus Social. Cool facility and group of car lovers, if you havent already heard of them. I wish I were closer but PTC is at least 45 min. away from there.
I know Autohaus well. Nash and the boys are solid. I try to make it to their events when i can. Nash has that yellow turbo, he wants to do a photo shoot with out 2 cars. I use them for anything i cant handle myself. Its great having such a nice shop intown
Living in Upstate New York, driving is like running through a reverse WHACK A MOLE game, dodging potholes.
The wider stepper Cup Car Splitter is much softer material, almost as soft as the bumper. As you can see it is the entire length of the bottom of bumper cover. (see picture)
They are normally kept the factory black, I had Porsche Dealership prep it and paint/clear it to match car.
My previous splitter was the Aero, I think it was a fiberglass construction.
wow, nice find. pretty interesting that BAT has it listed as clean car fax. no mention of engine being replaced etc. I wonder how long it will be before it gets withdrawn.

@Chicanery
: Thank you for the compliment. The kit is in fact original. I asked the local Porsche dealership to decipher the codes and the XAF code indicates the factory Aero Kit. Alternate code would be either XAA or XAH.
Thank you for the well wishes
You're Welcome: the COA for that car, which is listed in the add does not show XAF as a code. The only factory aero kit for the C4S was the XAH. That wing can be ordered and added aftermarket - but Porsche says not to run it without the front aero lip.
here is COA for that car, no mention of aero
I find it disturbing that BaT, when someone posted the link to the car that raised legitimate issues, flagged the comment as not constructive. Really!!
@GarrettSR5
, I believe IkoIko was commenting on the OP's C4S Auction, not the 2000 Carrera auction that you posted. He is pointing out that even though the OP 4S is listed with the kit, it is not on the original sticker.
I'm not a lawyer and all my legal experience has been as
defendant
but it seems like BaT would be opening themselves up to some liability by intentionally suppressing info in their auction listing.
Good for you!
BaT has sold out from their early years...
I put myself in a potential buyers shoes. Like myself, folks that buy a 996 may not have a ton of disposable income and think a 996 is our dream car. How much would it suck if a buyer picked up this car only to later find out he got a basket case from an unscrupulous seller. I call bullish.t when I see it.
I understand that they may not have much disposable income but even more so, a potential buyer should do their due diligence. I found all those pics with a 30 second Google search. Like i said, caveat emptor.
But yes I believe the seller is being intentionally deceitful and was hoping for a big score on BaT with this Aero 996. I don't like that the fact that the for sale thread on the electric car forum says it was sold as salvage in Canada yet the BaT seller maintains it's always had a clear title and cites PofNA (why would they care/have that info?) And Carfax which isn't very reliable
IMO the seller is banking on the buyer not performing their due diligence. Not all buyers are savvy and most dont subscribe to RL. If I was a first time Pcar buyer, Id sure appreciate the heads up that this car is no bueno, or at least being sold by a seller that is not 100% forthcoming.
I think BaT has tried to form a veil that they are a "premium buying and selling" experience compared to Craigslist, Facebook, eBay et al.
And I think they're no better.
YMMV
This baffles me how this was done, unless the transfer from Canada to California was altered by hiding salvage. Not in this age of technology.
I just don't see how.
We live on the border of NY/PA, several years ago this used to happen here all the time with state/state transfers, by big dealerships that had multiple corporations in different states.
An acquaintance purchase a Honda Accord a year or two old. Returned to selling dealership a couple times to repair electrical problems under dash.
Finally took it to a Honda dealer, the dash board was removed and muliple dead crayfish were found, flood car with inaccurate title information.
What are the controls in the lower console for?
also something is way off with the radio surround, someone on BAT said it was from a boxster. whole car looks janky
IMO, the real loser here is BAT.
I actually reached out and sent BAT the same info Bash Hat found shortly after the auction went live. They emailed me back and encourage ME to make a respectful post in the comments section raising my concerns.
What?
I did them a favor by bringing to their attention a potentially illegal auction on THEIR site by a deceitful seller and they wanted ME to fix it??
Caveat emptor is a must in any situation but BAT is displaying some serious culpability here.
I used to think BAT was a premium experience where they vetted the cars going through. I now know its no different than eBay or Craigslist with the exception of a watchful community that will police the listings that come up... obviously BAT does not.
Why would BaT spend resources on this when the comments section will do it for them? The fewer resources they spend the more profit they make. Its basically crowdsourcing a PPI.
BAT is being short sided.
I am speaking from a bias point of view, as business owner since 1993, web based 2007, (
not that means anything)
,
On the internet all you have is your perceived reputation
.
The cars on there are suppose to be vetted and verified, that is why they can bring the long dollar.
Just my opinion, BATs response to
jillphan
is dreadful. They have lost ALL CREDIBILITY to me.
If they took that attitude on
ONE LISTING
, that's it. The credibility is lost on every listing.
You can't be a little bit pregnant
,
either you are vetting and verifying your listings or you are not, period
.
Ah, thanks for the correction, sorry about that.
The question is, why wouldn't they? They have everything to loose and nothing to gain by not AT THE VERY LEAST, googling the VIN of each car they intend to list on their site. I recently sold a 993 via BAT and the rep i was assigned sent me several emails w/ several requests, most valid, some not; but resources spent nonetheless. If each BAT rep was required to google the VIN prior to reaching out, it would actually SAVE resources on their end.
BAT has several users that spend big $$ and purchase several cars per year. These are folks (I can only assume) have more money than time and believe BAT to be a premium source for new toys -- one in which each car is vetted by BAT before being listed. The debacle with the auction in question and a number of similar issues on other recent auctions is putting a serious dent in BAT's credibility as a quality source for used toys. It seems they're desire to increase volume (and thus profit) is on a path to backfiring as these big spenders will seek alternate sources... and once the dam breaks their profitability will suffer far worse than using "fewer resources" to make "more profit" on the front end.
EXACTLY.
