Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

He used a set of litronic headlight bowls that were retrofitted into my reflector housings using a new HID projector.
Leading evidence: 'Use set of litronic headlight bowls' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace lens itself' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

What I remember you need to take off the front transparant lens cover of the unit to be able to replace the lens itself.

Suggestion
The Mini H1's will fit by shaft mounting in the existing low beam hole, but the output from the D2S v5 is worth the extra work to cut out the reflector bowl and use the nut&bolt method - or fabricate a custom mounting plate.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone done a HID/Xenon retrofit into regular non-Litronic headlamps instead of retrofitting the full Litronic system?
I don't mean just throw an HID kit and bulb in a pair either. I mean an actual retrofit with the proper projector from a place like The Retrofit Source.
Boxster headlamps are cheap enough on ebay to make it worth a shot

Yes it can be done. I think you will need to search the forum/internet with the right keawords.
What I remember you need to take off the front transparant lens cover of the unit to be able to replace the lens itself.
It requires the unit being placed in the oven to loosen the adhesive.
If it is a mk1 type of unit you are lucky because the front tranparant lens apparently is for sale separately somewhere, So after conversion you end up with a nicely fresh looking headlamp.
If you are just planing to drop in some aftermarket HID bulb into the stock housing then I strongly suggest not to do this. You will be blinding everyone else because the non HID reflector hosing will scatter the light everywhere, including every oncoming car.
The Mini H1's will fit by shaft mounting in the existing low beam hole, but the output from the D2S v5 is worth the extra work to cut out the reflector bowl and use the nut&bolt method - or fabricate a custom mounting plate. The H1's are on par or slightly better than the factory Litronics. The D2S v5 are far better than anything the factory put into our cars.
Custom fabricated projector mounting plate and rear cover with ballast mounted.
Area that has to be cut out to center a D2S projector.
Not true ... I did the conversion to H7 style HID. they give a perfect lightimage identical to the original. I did even the test to drive in another car in front of it and ahead towards it.
I had a set done recently and I'm very happy with the results. He used a set of litronic headlight bowls that were retrofitted into my reflector housings using a new HID projector. I went from burnt and disgusting looking reflectors with low light output to new beautiful projectors with great output, and they were plug and play! No rewiring of the car required like when upgrading to litronics. I was also able to keep the amber turn signals which I happen to like. All of the litronics have clear signals.
^^^ My car is a 7/98 build and from what I can tell, litrnonics were not available until the 99 build year. I want to keep my original ambers so this works for me.
