Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

I have 3 blank button places above the wiper speed adjusting twister.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust twister' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust twister' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently bought a 1999 carrera that has "TC" traction control. Under the rocker button for TC on/off, there is a small bulb and under the bulb is a **** that turns clockwise and counter clockwise. when I turn the **** one way, the light bulb turns orange. when I turn the other way the light turns green. Also, when the **** is turned, a high pitch sound comes from the dashboard. Does anyone know what this **** and light/sound are for?
Whats all this about a 99 C2 having Traction Control? Theres nothing on mine or a **** anywhere to show TC. Are you sure what you are looking at is not a built in Radar detector control?
Get the Essential Companion Porsche 996 book and it will explain all about the ABS, TC, etc and which models have what in them as standard equipment. Pages 293 to 297
Sounds like K40 radar detector control button. Orange means City mode, Green means Highway mode. High pitched sound is not normal. Sounds like the speaker is shot. Look around your front bumper and see if you notice a square black box, which would be the receiver with one wire coming out the back. If that is what you have, then I would take it to a K40 dealer and have them figure out why you're getting the high pitched sound and see if they can replace it.
YOU HAVE??????????????????
would you mind posting a photo of it please. I'm maybe missing something here but very much doubt it. Unless TC was an option for the 99. I have 3 blank button places above the wiper speed adjusting twister. Are you referring to one of those being the TC?
devious - you have me curious now. Like Barn I have TC. I thought that TC works solely on the rear wheels, keeping them from spinning freely, while PSM is stability control that works on all 4 wheels and, in addition to preventing wheelspin, attempts to keep the car on the road when the driver may not be up to the task. My TC light rarely flashes and if I recall correctly the circumstances were beyond my LSDs capability as in going over a hump and almost getting airborne.
Sorry, you're correct. PSM is a more advanced system that does work on all wheels.
I should have phrased it differently. From what I remember when I was researching, Porsche did not offer PSM in '99, only traction control. The later years, when PSM was offered, the button is in the same place as the TC button. I'm not sure if there was ever a choice to get either PSM or just TC. I've got a 996.2 and on those only PSM was available.
Not entirely correct, TC was not renamed as PSM; PSM is a comprehensive stability management controller which features TC as a small part of the package. Traction Control option code 222 was available on early 996s.
