Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My '99's aero kit was sourced and installed by me using an OEM front bumper and side skirts, but aftermarket cabrio wing that has the factory profile.
Leading evidence: 'Install by me' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'real gt3 kit' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check stamping' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There was also a 4/99 non-XAA car that recently sold on BaT which had a factory Aerokit installed which was also missing the Made in France embossment.

The value of said option fully depends on those willing to pay the price to buy a new or used car with them.

Suspected cause
Well if u open the frunk and the intake tube is on the right side and it has a mezger motor in it its probably a real gt3 kit.

Suggestion
He will need to check for the stamping under the rear decklid, and then inside the front bumper for the corresponding part number.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Rear decklid should have a Made In France stamping on the inside. The only thing that stands out is the black lip spoiler (on the lower fin of the rear spoiler) on the bottom as I thought they were all color matched (unless they wrapped or painted it). Front bumper and skirts appear correct, they should have 996 part numbers stamped but may need to remove to confirm.
This will only note if the kit was factory/assembly line installed. Sometimes kits were installed at the dealer after the fact, while still using genuine parts. He will need to check for the stamping under the rear decklid, and then inside the front bumper for the corresponding part number. I'd imagine there's a part number on the skirts but I've never been underneath to look, the way they're mounted I'd guess they need to be taken off.
Well if u open the frunk and the intake tube is on the right side and it has a mezger motor in it its probably a real gt3 kit.
If its a standard c2 with a m96 motor and the intake on the drivers side then the kit is actually a Areokit 2. There are actually differences between the 2 that u cant tell from the outside. Also the gt3 wung us about $14k and the Areokit wing is about $7k from porsche. I have both at my house right now.
Areokit 2 wing, dont have the gt3 pics in my phone.
IIRC, the Gurney flap will be black on GT3s, but color matched on Aerokit.
If that is in fact a GT3, check the VIN.
If it is an Aerokit, check the sticker under the hood.
Could also be dealer installed, or even owner installed. (I did mine, but it is mixed Genuine/aftermarket)
The Gurney flap could also be black if it is a dealer install package or purchased by an owner and installed. Porsche shipped the Gurney flap in black as part of the Aerokit install package, the dealer &/or individual would decide whether or not they wanted to paint it to match.
The wheels are correct for a 996.1 (European only) GT3, if the fronts are 18x8 inch with 18x10 rears. Those Sport Design wheels came in different sizes. The fronts are often found as 18x7.5. They were also 18x7 and 18x9 for the Boxster, as I recall. The 996.2 GT3, which was now available in the US, had different wheels. I have a set of both wheels. I need to roll my rear fenders to fit the 11 inch 996.2 GT3 rear wheels on my very early build 1999 model. Interestingly, my coupe has rolled front fenders, but the rears are not.
Interesting. I know of two different 6/98 XAA cars that dont have it and neither does my 9/98 XAA car. There is another X/98 XAA car that Ive seen within the past two years that is also missing it but for the life of me I cant seem to dig up its exact build date at the moment.
There was also a 4/99 non-XAA car that recently sold on BaT which had a factory Aerokit installed which was also missing the Made in France embossment. So either the kit on that car was produced early on, it was a fake, or something else in the kits production history is the reason why its missing.
Maybe this is a silly question but if no one on here can tell the difference between a factory aero kit and aftermarket kit, does it really matter which it is? If theyre essentially indistinguishable it would be irrelevant to me
I hear you!
My '99's aero kit was sourced and installed by me using an OEM front bumper and side skirts, but aftermarket cabrio wing that has the factory profile. Couldn't justify $6K for the OEM wing, plus painting, as opposed to spending less than $1500 for the wing, painting and a donor engine cover when no one can really tell the difference..
In my experience its usually quite easy to spot the fakes, especially with the wing.
It matters no more or less than any other rare/desirable options on a Porsche. The value of said option fully depends on those willing to pay the price to buy a new or used car with them.
It only matters to purists who really care about originality. I think XAA would bring more than an OEM install at dealer after the fact, but really at the end of the day....., it doesn't matter one bit. It only matters when it comes down to the person who's buying preferences.
