Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I mention this because I bet most Porsches are running around shaking and shimmying to some extent....because the wheels are wide with much offset and they are so sensitive

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought my car in Nov and it had a front end shake that I knew was a balance issue. I had a lot of other stuff to do on the car, one was to rebuild the suspension and I figured I'd fix the shake later. I wanted to see if I could balance it out myself. I bought one of those static balancers.....which brings me to the subject of the physics of wheel balancing. I knew the static balancer was only good for one plane but I thought I could move the weight in and out till I got it in the right place. That did not work .....although I did manage to improve it. Then I paid 65 bucks to have two wheels balanced at Custom alignment in Mt View Ca. Holy crap the front end is dead smooth! Makes me realize none of my previous 3 Porsches have been perfectly balanced..... I mention this because I bet most Porsches are running around shaking and shimmying to some extent....because the wheels are wide with much offset and they are so sensitive

POST 2Original post

Great way to spend $65. Happy for you. That's a great $ too. Very fair. Nothing beats a high quality dynamic road force balance, with a proper run-out measurement, to match-up normal high and low spot deviations in the wheel and tire. Think of the ying and yang picture. Balance nirvana.

POST 3Original post

Yeah, it makes sense to balance the wheel/tire assembly as it is in its natural state: not a perfect circle (or anywhere close to that).

That's assuming the "tech" takes the time to do it right. Any good tech can optimize the balance weight placement if properly trained with a calibrated balance machine. I did it in the 80's & it still works fine.
