Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace 4 of my tires' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'whole control arm' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean supplies: amazon.com: industrial & scientific' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If I may, can they replace just the bushing or do they have to replace the whole control arm to get a serviceable bushing?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My problem was solved with new lower control arm bushings as well as new upper strut mount bearings to fix a knocking issue when going over speed bumps.
I have a 1999 996-C4. There is a noise coming from the front end at low speeds. (I assume it there at high speed to just can't hear it but not sure) seem to be coming from the wheels and like a dull ticking sound when I go over a bump or make a turn. hard to describe the sound but it almost like and a door creaking??? any ideas on what this could be?

I had the same noise on my 1970 911 S. Back then, BH, (before Hurdi) the trick fix was ATF with a syringe. That might be in one of the UP Fixin' books.

Here is a good DIY
that can help with the control arm replacement.
Yes, but typically they replace the whole control arm (if you're staying with an OEM bushing) as it is cheaper/easier. If you're wanting to install an aftermarket bushing then it can be done without buying the whole control arm kit. From my experience shops will quote the whole control arm replacement because it is way less labor intensive and essentially cheaper.
Have the Same issue just ordered 2 new OEM control arms (need to normally do both) front lower left/right. $698 total. Suncoast Porsche Parts. Did extensive research don't mess around with the after market parts. RSS if you track but will be a bit pricier about $1050 for the pair. Cheers
I didn't use WD40 either. I used a syringe to squirt some super lube inside the boot. After two or three drives the car has been perfectly quiet. Also, mine didn't creak when I turned the wheel, but when you pushed down on the fender it was exactly like the video.

I just did the same to mine over the weekend. I got a "grease fitting syringe" for my grease gun and very easily pushed it into the rubber boot around the ball joint at the outer end of the control arm. One thing to note is that the creak/squeak didn't go away until I actually drove the car (within about 500 - 600 ft.). While the car was in the driveway, it was still squeaking like crazy while rocking the front suspension. In any case it's SO NICE to drive without that incessant noise!!!
i got this same issue but it appears the noise is coming from the rear and it starts only when i hit ABOVE 30 mph.
I recently changed all 4 of my tires.
My '03 C2 is in the shop getting new control arm bushings (or just new control arms) as I type this. The rattling sound from up front was pretty unnerving every time I ran over an insect, grain of dirt, or god forbid, hit a bump.
Are you SURE it's just the control arm bushings? The reason I ask is because, there's a bunch of stuff up there (besides the control arm bushings) that can cause clunks/rattles/squeaks/creaks etc... Blindly throwing $ at them without a precise diagnosis can get very expensive, very quickly. Good luck with it, I hope they get it right the first time
It's good to know I'm not the only one dealing with this noise, it's like driving an old Buick! I'll try the grease trick until control arms are replaced.
BTW, I've seen two different part #s for the front lower arms; supposedly, it depends on whether the car comes with Litronics or not. What's the difference?
Glad to hear you got it fixed! How much $ Which "bushing" ? Did you use a stock bushing or aftermarket along the lines of Powerflex? Also did he do both sides or just the one that was squeaking (I would think both)...?
My dealer had a lot of trouble finding where this noise was coming from they finally said the control arm, but wanted to start replacing parts starting at $900 and could not guarantee a fix. I injected all the boots on that side with high temp axle grease and lo and behold the noise went away. The deal said there were no loose parts and the noise was not indicative of a serious problem. I drove the car for a nine hour trip and in 90F weather the noise came back at the end of the trip.will add ATF or something less vicious if it persists.

This is what I used and have been good for 2+ months. I've been using this crap on all kinds of things (que Schnelly - "Are we doing phrasing?") since I got it. It's awesome.
