Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know where I can get the retrofit kit ? I can only find it at Pelican, but they want $1200 and I have read old post quoting less than $300. My hardtop with bayonet mounts is very noisy. Thanks

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, better price but still about 3 times the old price!

I am guessing the kit is a dealer-only item, hence the hefty price tag. I highly doubt you can still find any at the "old" price. Maybe try junk/salvage yards....best of luck.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's what I was thinking - I'll call some salvage yards.

POST 6Original post

All Cabs before 2005 (IIRC) came from the factory with the mounting hardware for a hardtop. Might be worth asking around for any Cab owners without a hard top, but still have the mounting kit installed. When I sold my hardtop, it was to someone with a 2005, we just swapped parts so he ended up with my mounting kit, took < 1 hour for removal, install, etc.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks cmoody - good idea that could get me half way there- I'll post something and see what happens. trendy - I saw those but they are going to opposite way. They will allow the old style hardtop mounts to fit a new style car - they are for the old bayonet style.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As an interim measure, yesterday I pulled the top and wrapped some rubber plumbing repair tape around the top part of the bayonet pins on the top. It was a pain to lock them in (actually bent the top tool - that thing is not hardened), but they clicked in. Now I have almost no noise - even going over railroad tracks. I am not sure if it was so hard to lock in because of the added friction of the tape and the added diameter, or maybe the tape was pushed up to the top of the pin - I may take it off to see the condition, but for now it is nice and quiet!
