Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I cant imagine what you could have done to change the center but it could also be the rear end and the car is going down the road like a crab

Suggestion
Alignment doesn't change normally after going over a bump, but the geometry of one of the components would change, which would effect your steering wheel angle.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Edit - Local bodyshop took care of the alignment - all seems ok again.
On the roadtrip home from collecting my 996, I ran through a rough construction zone and one particular uneven 'road->bridge transition' unsettled the car and the wheel suddenly was 10 degrees to the right when heading straight. This is my first Porsche, so I'm unsure what to look for - hoping for suggestions.
1) car is lowered on 'Feal' coilovers w/ camber plates and all suspension arms look recent w/ good rubber
2) First 600 miles were trouble free but then I got a rear flat tire. After the tire shop had it up on the lift (unloading suspension) the car pulled slightly right when decelerating.
3) About 50 miles later I hit that construction zone hump and the steering wheel became 10 degrees pointed right. No shakes, tracked straight under accel/decel/braking/coasting.
4) Pulled over a checked for anything obvious - no bent arms, camber plate settings similar on both sides same with the hat mount nut locations, tie rods seemed fine. Was only 30 mins from home so I ended up driving it back without incident.
I'm about 150+ miles for any Indy Porsche shop so I'm taking it to the local alignment guy (bodyshop in town) to measure what's off. Anything 911 specific things I should have him check? Any reasons NOT for him to touch it in favor of a 911 specific shop?
On the upside, after reading lots of 'dogs in a 911' threads, I was worried it would be too small for my dog. I moved the passenger seat all the way forward, laid it back all the way and threw two large dog beds in it and he was super happy. Still had plenty of room behind the drivers seat for my bag, dog toys, and a water bowl.
Its possible rear toe is out, I had it happen to me. The eccentric bolt for the rear toe arm can shift and will cause misalignment which results in steering wheel going off center. I went with Rennline adjustable rear toe arms and never had the problem again.
Steering wheel straight and going straight before hitting the bump and then steering wheel is turned just to go straight after hitting the bump means you did some damage. Contact your local PCA and find a good alignment shop that has experience with VW, Audi, even if they don't see a lot of Porsches.
I agree with sasilverbullet, except with those conditions the car would pull or the tires would bounce all the time, not just when braking.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I took it to the local bodyshop w/ a copy of the service manual alignment procedures and a note stating the rear eccentrics weren't a throughbolt (as mentioned in other threads about shops damaging the eccentrics constrained by the subframe). Everything seems good so far.
I'll be purchasing adjustable toe-arms and tackle them later this summer.
When I had a 97 Audi A8, had the same exact issue as you, but I ended up hitting a flange on a pipe that was sticking out of the ground in Chicago when going very slowly. Hit the face of the tire about 4-5" off the ground. The steering wheel was now cocked after the incident.
Couldn't figure out exactly what it was at first, but then determined it was a bent control arm. The control arm was a curved control arm and the curve just got larger after the incident. Changed out the control arm and everything was perfect, no need for an alignment.
There is a chance you have a bent component vs. a bad alignment. Alignment doesn't change normally after going over a bump, but the geometry of one of the components would change, which would effect your steering wheel angle. Best of luck.
