Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996.2 Cabriolet has taken to opening the roof all by itself, for absolutely no apparent reason. Sitting quietly on the driveway, with no external or internal interference, it will randomly fully open the convertible roof. Its been happening on and off for a few weeks, I cant figure out why. Can anyone help?

POST 2Original post

I think the most likely culprit is the dash switch. Under $50 on pelican or suncoast. It's possibly sticking in the "open" position.

POST 3Original post

The only other way to open the top is to insert your key into the drivers side door and hold the unlock position. I assume theres nothing wrong with the door lock.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nope, it’s not that (I think), otherwise everything functions normally on the car.

POST 5Original post

Then Id go with what Dana suggested (dash switch).

POST 6Original post

Is the hand brake engaged when this happens? If so, try leaving it without the hand brake on. That might tell you if its the dash switch or the door latch. The door latch doesn't require the hand brake but the dash switch does.
