Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
The cost of the parts alone is likely a wash and if you are paying someone else to do the work it swings even further in the wrong direction.
Leading evidence: 'wash and if you are paying someone else' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'wash and if you are paying someone else' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace are expensive' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Ive always had the impression that sex changes are expensive but worth to the people who want them.

Now that I have the 4.0 up and running without issues, I'm even more pushed to do it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys... I bought my 02 c4s a cpl years back. Always wanted one and jumped at the opportunity when I found one a white one with low mileage. 22k
Only downfall... it was tiptronic.
The interior was boring... too much gray. I decided to redo the interior and bring this car to showroom condition - so I gutted the car.
Bought a new old stock oem dash, new seats, wrapped the steering wheel and center console Alcantara... gave the interior some life.
Now, do you guys think its worth doing a tranny swap? Getting rid of the tiptronic and going 6spd... whats your thoughts. Thanks

That would be quite the investment to do the swap. If you check
all
three of the follwing boxes, then it is worth it.
- this is your keeper car
- you have lots of money burning a hole in your pocket
- having a manual would make all the difference in the world to you
thanks.
You got me at the burning hole 🔥🔥🔥 lol
As much as i would love it to be manual and yes its a keeper (for now) but i was thinking more along the lines of whether it would increase value of the car.
Love the interior upgrades you did! I wouldn't swap to a manual unless you are doing it for you and the fun factor. Doing it for investment reasons doesn't make sense to me, but I guess if you can do all the work yourself it wouldn't be crazy $$$$$. I love having a manual and would have passed on mine had it been a tip, but that is just me and my humble opinion. I do love the feel of the power and shifting through it.
For the cost of doing this just in parts alone? No, it wouldn't increase the value much. So if you want to do this to increase the value, then I say do not do it.
Even a Jack Raby engine rebuild, with the reputation and mythical status that entails, does not increase the value of a 996 enough to recoup the money spent. Nor would a manual swap.
If u want to convert to 2wd i gave all the hard parts u will need to do the swap from my y2k c2. Have pedals, clutch mc/slave, fluid line, trans and clutch.
If you have the time, space and funds to do this right, right being a key word here. Last thing you want to do is half-*** a job like this. I say go for it! A manual conversion wouldn't be seen as an undesirable mod and if it's a keeper, then who cares about resale!
From a driving standpoint I'm of the opinion a manual is ALWAYS worth it. From a cost perspective...ehh. You may be able to get out of this and into a manual car for only a few grand out of pocket. The cost of the parts alone is likely a wash and if you are paying someone else to do the work it swings even further in the wrong direction.
No because in the future if you decide to sell it it’s worth less unless to most collectors unless you sell it to an enthusiast
besides why not sell and search for a 6 speeder
Mike
I really like that wrapped center console and seat centers. Mine makes me so nervous. It gets sticky and every time I clean it I feel like I'm wiping the finish off.
I wouldn't do it myself.
It's likely a huge amount of work and a lot of $$ in parts.
He would likely also need the manual's ECU, immobilizer, keys and gauges.
I agree with the majority. Sell this one and buy a manual. It wouldn't make sense unless this car has a ton of sentimental value and you have to have a manual.
do it!!! Its just like working on these engines, not that hard really......
I've looked into it, plenty of places in the car to get the missing speed signal from. May take some coding but 90% of it is just parts swapping.
It's on my list to do in my C4S. Now that I have the 4.0 up and running without issues, I'm even more pushed to do it.
