Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I always found this interesting considering they installed an ashtray and lighter.
Leading evidence: 'Install ashtray and lighter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I actually have it installed but it is only good for large cups (pun intended).

I've actually started using the factory one after repairing it, although it sucks too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, I'm in a pickle and hoping you kind guys won't mind helping me out...
My wife has a 2000 996 and she has said for the last two years how much she wants the Porsche cup holder. It's her birthday on Tuesday, so I'm hoping I'm going to complete this by then!
So far this escapade has been quite a rough ride; with the price of a new one
, then the common faults of them sticking, onto the price of used ones
, to my landing a not too sticky one for 40
.
Today is the day I thought great she's at work, I'm going to fit it and she won't even notice... Then I found out, the vents seem to be different
... Back to eBay then, found some vents and rang them for advise: Apparently, I need the face-lift parts
: at least the horseshoe (in Savannah), the backing and the vents. The guy I spoke with wasn't 100% on the smaller parts I would need, hence coming to you guys.
It has Sat-nav
.
A 2000 over there could be a 2001 which is still a mk1 model. If you get mk1 cup holder that takes up a whole din slot, that should be all that you need, unless you have a Nav system possibly. Many have done this mod without any issues.
Pics of your car and center console would help us in verifying it.
I know that the Ultimate Cupholders are the crowd favorite around here but I like the Porsche version better. It does depend on what she is going to be using it for. Is she an cappuccino drinker (small cups work in the Porsche version - I would not use it for larger drinks) or more of a Big Gulp type?

We all know a cup holder has no place in a true performance car. The Germans never took cup holders seriously (i.e. in the 964 or 993) believing that no self respecting driver would ever use one. Only long term market information convinced them that they should put one in the 911.
In fact, this was true of all the German manufacturers. I think they all were "mocking" us here in the U.S. by designing cup holders that could only have been thought up by a German.

Not sure if this one is still available or not:

I actually have it installed but it is only good for large cups (pun intended). Nice and simple design.
I may give them a call tomorrow to find out.
I have the factory cupholder below the vents, which I've never used. (Yet for some reason I went through the trouble to fix it) I also have an Ultimate Cupholder, and I'm not really a fan of that either.
Here is a picture of my interior with it installed. As I mentioned, it is very cupsize specific. If the cup is too big, it wont go through the hole. Too small and it will fall all the way through. I thought about putting some kind of rubber in the center to help hold different sizes of cups.
It is VERY easy to install. It just slides in place.
As you can see I have three cupholders. The Porsche pair up top and the one off to the right.

I ordered a set of the Ultimate Cup Holders. I have the swing out holder in my dash but it is too small for my wife's large Starbuck's Cold drink cup.
I ordered the Ultimate before I saw the ones below which would be cool if it had an holder on each side.
I have a pair of the Ultimate Cupholder but to be honest I've never completely figured out how to install them. I get that you need to slide it up and under a piece of trim on the center console, but there are several places to put it and none of them seem to 'catch' anything when I slide it up.
Any ideas?
I just ordered the one from Sound in Motion. Seems pricey for a piece of plastic at $50, but it looks like it might be a good solution. You can order online.

$50 is about right considering the cost of having the mold designed and built (chunk of steel), cost of molding machine and some one to run it and their benefits. Even though it is about $2 in plastic a little more if glass reinforced (like fan shroud material) you have to look at how many will you actually sell. If these fit Porsche only, you can only sell so many and all that has to be figured in the price so they may be making $25 profit on each one if they are lucky.
I worked 20 years in manufacturing molding, pharmaceutical IV bottles, inhalers and car parts.
I have one, and found the same thing. After taking the sides of the console off to see what I could hook it under, I found that it really only holds tight enough when installed far towards the rear of the car.
Since my wife sometimes drives and has to move my seat way up, that eliminated the driver's side. My kids also ride in the back sometimes, which requires the passenger side seat to be pushed up. This resulted in the "ultimate cupholder" being moved to a shelf in the garage.
I've actually started using the factory one after repairing it, although it sucks too.
