Coincidentally, or so I thought, my CC was cutting in and out, so I assumed it was the red switch actuated by the clutch pedal.

Suggestion

I managed to squeeze under there and change the switch, but noticed there was about 1/4" of play in the pedal, and if I lifted the pedal with my foot the cruise was fine - until I hit a decent bump, when it would disengage.

Now this part may be - when cruise control is working properly (meaning light turns on), it won't set unless I put my foot under the clutch pedal and raise it to the top, like it's loose.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've seen topics about the clutch power spring being removed for a heavier clutch action and more definitive release point. I thought about doing this myself but I thought mine was pretty definite and precise that I didn't want to mess with it. Apparently it wasn't really helping anyways and must have been on its way out for a while because the other day as I depressed the clutch it caught a little at the very top before I heard a crack (oh s***!) and then everything was normal. When I got out of the car I found the spring lying on the floor. Perhaps coincidentally, my cruise control has been acting weird. Sometimes the green light doesn't light up when I press the on button on the stalk. That part I think is unrelated to the clutch. Now this part may be - when cruise control is working properly (meaning light turns on), it won't set unless I put my foot under the clutch pedal and raise it to the top, like it's loose. Is this something I can fix simply or is it because that power spring isn't there anymore and there's a little bit of play in the action? We're talking 1/4" at best play.

Yes, do you walk to school or take your lunch? If you search this forum you will find multiple answers to one or more of your questions. Some folks have just replaced the stock spring with a new one. Some have purchased and installed a lighter spring. etc... Here is a quick read on most of the options/opinions https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...matically.html

POST 3Original post

I've read the threads on the spring, but I was recently having problems with my clutch pedal and the engagement of the starter safety switch (wherever it is). I was having to put my left foot ALL the way to the floor to get the starter to engage. To the point where I was starting to fear it might not start someday. Coincidentally, or so I thought, my CC was cutting in and out, so I assumed it was the red switch actuated by the clutch pedal. I managed to squeeze under there and change the switch, but noticed there was about 1/4" of play in the pedal, and if I lifted the pedal with my foot the cruise was fine - until I hit a decent bump, when it would disengage. I also was having the intermittent problem you describe, with the dash light coming on sometimes, but not always. I was starting to think it was time for a new ignition switch. Finally took it to my Indy, and after much investigation he figured it was the pedal's main spring, (I have the old one if you need a pic) and a worn bushing. Replaced both, and wow! Not only does my clutch pedal feel like new, but cruise problems are all solved too.

Sounds just like mine. Yeah a pic would be great!

POST 5Original post

EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY CAR RIGHT NOW! It all started with about a quarter inch of play side to side and up-and-down in the clutch pedal as you stated. Then, again like you stated, my clutch pedal would start to catch whether it was at the top or in mid motion. That scared me enough to take it to Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas, where my service advisor stepped on the clutch pedal, and immediately said we need to drop the transmission and charge you $900 just to diagnose the problem. I first laughed, and then left and went to my Indy. Within five minutes he came out from underneath the dash with the entire clutch power spring in pieces. Same thing with the cruise control on my car. If I engage it it will last for 10 seconds and then it disengages unless I have my foot under the clutch pedal. Glad to hear you got it fixed and it worked, it did stop the play side to side and up-and-down in the pedal did it not? How much did your Indy charge you to fix?

POST 8Original post

Wasn't cheap, but I know he had quite a time with it. $850, including parts, and while I swallowed hard at that amount, he's so reasonable on everything else I really can't complain. Not included in this amount, but I also had the transmission mount replaced at the same time (motor mounts OK). So, as you can imagine, my car drives great again! Those kids of things deteriorate over time, so you don't really notice them.

POST 9Original post

Oh boy, my Indy is charging $255. Wonder why the large discrepancy.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's not necessary for operation, lot of people take them out because they like the way it feels. But the cruise control thing drives me nuts. I'm going to see if there's another way because I'd rather not even put another one in. And if I do I'll probably do it myself, doesn't seem hard to do. It's only $78 on pelican.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the pic that's exactly what fell out of my car haha.

POST 12Original post

$850 is absolutely insane. Change it yourself.

POST 14Original post

Long thread but lots of good info buried in it. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...matically.html

POST 15Original post

Thank you! But after reading that thread I am wondering if this is the culprit for my "loose" (1/4 inch movement side to side and up and down) clutch pedal?
