Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The 996/986 can run the stereo with the key out of the car, so the +12v is hot and there should be another switched line to control power on/off.

Suggestion

If you can't find a switched 12V in the harness, run a wire from the cell phone connector (4-wire connector) found under the carpet just ahead of the shifter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I've just swapped out a non-Bose, non-MOST CDR-23 from a 2003 996. The connectors are standard ISO but the power appears to be always on - a direct battery connection. I can't find an ignition switched connection though there must be one because the original unit comes on and off with the ignition... I've had a multimeter on each connection and can't find it, and it isn't on the terminal on the ISO block I'd expect. Any suggestions gratefully received... Thanks

If you can't find a switched 12V in the harness, run a wire from the cell phone connector (4-wire connector) found under the carpet just ahead of the shifter. You may find the connector tucked under the airbag controller...

I have a 2003 CD-R 23 car non Bose but with cd changer. I thought all 2003's were most cars?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12387186

No, I think that the MOST was used to talk between the CD changer, the head unit and the amplifier. My car doesn't have a CD changer and doesn't have an external amplifier so the MOST connection sockets are just looped on each other.

Actually a very good question but sadly not the answer...the ISO socket doesn't have a connection at all on the socket where the ignition connection should be...
