Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone: I have a 2005 996 Cabriolet Carrera 2. Runs great. Just got a CEL and the error code is P0349, Camshaft Sensor Bank 2. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find this sensor and is it at all a DIY replacement? My first Porsche and I am afraid to find out what the Porsche Tax might be at any service shop. Thank you all in advance.

POST 2Original post

Its a DIY,, IF you start reading heavily through the forum, One of the first things you'll run across is how important having one of the Porsche optimized test devices is,, Durametric, and others.. Eventually you will need to calibrate the convertible top or diagnose a function problem that will require a good tester. If you dont want to use the Dealer or a good independent shop, its the baseline cost of ownership. Good luck.

Are you in the USA? Pelican Parts, Warehouse33, Rock Auto and many more...Google it and you'll find what, where and how.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you very much. I guess I need to research where the camshaft position sensor in bank 2 is located.

Do you realize that the sensor could be fine and that you have a mechanical problem going on? So many people run to replacing sensors only to find that it doesn't fix the problem. The sensor is doing it's job to alert you. Do you know if the engine was rebuilt or have any service history?

POST 7Original post

Hi all - reviving this thread. I have the same error code and also an over-advance error code - makes sense if the sensor is failing. I'm wondering about the possibility of a mechanical issue - anything to look out for? The engine seems to be running fine but that doesn't mean anything.
