I just replaced all the squirters the 2nd time around.
Leading evidence: 'Replace squirters the 2nd time around' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean .success' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Squirters come out easily,it’s best if you remove them so you can make sure oil passages in crank carrier super clean.Success on your build.

In preparing for the rebuild of my engine I decided to buy the Stomski Piston Squirter cleaning tool to test and clean the piston squirters.

Suggestion
I would definitely replace anything that had oil going through it due to the debris generated by the piston.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In preparing for the rebuild of my engine I decided to buy the Stomski Piston Squirter cleaning tool to test and clean the piston squirters. Today I decided to use the tool only to discover that there is no way to fit it on the 996 heads. I am wondering if anyone else has experience in using this tool on the M97/97 heads.
Why would you use a piston squirter tool on the heads and you clearly know thats the crank carrier not the heads. As to the actual question, no never used it
I believe tool not for 996 engine ,piston squirters are in crank carrier and removable.Check out Yaz’s rebuild ( on this forum) he addresses his squirters in his rebuild. Regards
My mistake on saying the heads. The piston squirters are located in the crank carrier on a 996 engine and and in the crankcase on earlier 911s. These squirters squirt oil on the underside of the pistons and have nothing to do with the heads. Thus the picture of the crank carrier.
I saw that thread on his rebuild but I wanted to test the squirters without removing them. Even if removed they still need to be tested. And you are correct this tool does not work on m96/97 engines. I purchased it on Pelican Parts where they says it is compatible with the m96. They have authorized the return although they want me to pay the shipping. Not sure why as they say it is compatible.
I would fight the return shipment deal. I bought carpet mats for my 2005 996 from Pelican after talking to a sale rep to make sure I was ordering the right product. Sure enough I got mats for a 997 and trust me those don't fit. Pelican told me they were not returnable as I ordered the wrong mats until I sent pics and transcripts of the conversation including person/time/date. Seemed the sales crew didn't know there were 996's sold as 2005s. Push them with documentation they should backoff! That is crap.
Correct. The squirters are not press fit and should fall out. They are so inexpensive anyways, if you had any debris in the engine, it's best just to replace them.
I just replaced all the squirters the 2nd time around. Currently available for a hair under $11 each from Sunset.

I have a side question: do these jets work at cold start or idle conditions? I would assume they would only work at higher RPM and when the oil is warm enough to flow through them?
Wow, if I had known they were this inexpensive I would have ordered new ones right away. My local dealer gives me 20% off so putting in new ones is less expensive than the Stomski tool was when you include tax and shipping. Porsche has them in California so I am getting some on order tomorrow. In the meantime I will keep cleaning parts, etc.
By the way I spoke to Pelican Customer Service and they are sending a new Return Authorization and are paying the shipping. I suggested that they correct their site to show that only 996 and 997 turbos with Metzger engines are compatible with this Stomski tool. I should say that I have bought many things from Pelican and they have always been great.
They don't work at idle or low speeds. I have read that they open about 20 lbs of pressure. When I think about this though it may be that at idle with cold oil the pressure might be enough to open them. They are designed to spray oil on the underside of the pistons to cool them off.
Is there any other way the piston gets oil especially on the thrust side? I would like to verify all these passages are good and clear.
I have a build thread going in the 997 forum and pistons 4,5,6 all are scored/melted badly.
1,2,3 are all in good shape. The engine had 135k when I removed it.
New piston squirters are readily available and just drop in:

I would definitely replace anything that had oil going through it due to the debris generated by the piston. This would include tensioners, lifters, etc.
There is plenty of oil being whipped around inside the engine - enough that many engines don't have oil squirters are do just fine. In fact, some builders purposefully remove them to help with increasing oil pressure in track engines.
