Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ive read the typical culprit is the IMS tensioner.
Leading evidence: 'ims tensioner' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'ims tensioner' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill with oil upon start up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
i dont think u ruined anything by not doing this becuase they will fill with oil upon start up but having them dry is probably not the best for them.

I have a 99 c2 (5 chain) and decided to replace all three chain tensioners during a IMSB LN Retrofit procedure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Surprised youre still getting some rattle on start up.
Hi All -
I have a 99 c2 (5 chain) and decided to replace all three chain tensioners during a IMSB LN Retrofit procedure. Just wanted to share a pic of the location for bank two tensioner since I was unable to find one. I also shared a pic for the other two easy access tensioners.
The IMS (bank two) and Left tensioner (bank one) are pretty easy to access. PIC one. 32mm socket. Lock cams and remove.
The right side (bank two) tensioner is just to the right of the AC compressor on top. PIC two. Unfortunately the compressor needs to be removed to access. This tensioner is also a 32mm hex nut.
I suspect I will no longer have the occasional rattle at start up with the new IMS tensioner. This tensioner did not spring out like the other two. After inspection the tensioner would stick and not spring like the other two. Ive read the IMS tensioner is failure prone (sticks) and have to wonder what stress is put on the IMSB when the IMS chain is not under tension???
Happy wrenching!
Pic one
Pic two. Right (bank two) tensioner. On top of engine. AC compressor removed for access. 32mm socket.
Hello! I did the easy two and still get a little rattle on start up. Did you soak the new ones in oil before you installed? I think this is possibly where I made an error.
U dont soak them in oil. U push them in amd out a few times in a container of oil. Pumping them up.
i dont think u ruined anything by not doing this becuase they will fill with oil upon start up but having them dry is probably not the best for them.
I havent installed the new ones yet. Got the old dual row IMSB out tonight and plan to install LN tomorrow.

thanks for the oil tip dejeeper. I too thought it need to soak overnight. Your method make more sense.
