Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just noticed driving home a high pitch squeal that is very loud OFF throttle, but goes away immediately WITH throttle. Sounds like typical belt squeal but can't say for sure. Luckily I was only 2 miles out and made it home. No smoke or smells. Car is an '00 6spd coupe with 110k. Recent water pump, clutch and IMS with 15k tops. Unknown when the drive belt/rollers/pulleys were last done. Any ideas? Just weird how it comes/goes with or without throttle. Luckily I have an apt with my mechanic next week for something else but won't drive it in the meantime to be safe.

30 second job to pull belt and test on cold start car. Well, 60 seconds If not a belt easy to move to next issue on list

POST 3Original post

Has the AOS ever been replaced? Try removing the oil cap while engine is running, if it has an unusual suction on it the AOS diaphragm has failed. If it has failed , take a look at the UAOS, eliminates ever having to replace that pita thing again.

Yup it's the AOS thanks. Just fired it up and saw a faint puff of smoke (it never smokes) and the oil cap was a little more difficult to remove than when the motor is off. Also, a few minutes prior to hearing the squeal, I was parking at the store and noticed an erratic idle drift up to 1500rpm while coasting in neutral. Now it all makes sense. I'll tow it to my indy to be safe. In addition to the UAOS, any other suggestions while we're "in there", such as renew clutch and ims?

The UAOS install is only 3.5-4.0 hours labor and is not associated to the IMS, RMS, clutch,( unless the tech is doing those as" an engine out procedure"), but if they have not been updated, I would suggest updating them as well as the coolant tank.
