Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have read many of the threads on the 996 spoiler deployment issues but have something a bit different I believe. When sitting in stop and go traffic on a hot fay (90F+) or exceeding the speed deployment threshold, I get an engine compartment cooling error. Temp gauge never moves above the 180 range and I can definitely heat the fan running. If I manually raise the spoiler, the error clears and all is good. Spoiler will automatically retract on its own when I stop driving and engine cools down. Any ideas if it is the "up" relay or microswitch? Any advice would be appreciated before I take it to a mechanic to solve. 2006 Carrera - 16k miles

Make sure the engine bay temp sensor is in place. It can fall out of the grommet that holds it. Located between the intakes for Bank 2, cylinders 4 and 5. Use a little soap or silicone spray to slide it back in the grommet. Also make sure the electrical connector for the fan and spoiler are plugged in tight. Never hurts to unplug the connectors and spray some electrical cleaner on the pins and sockets.
