Suggestion
Guessing for ~$30k asking it will need to be well optioned, very clean, low miles, with full service history, and maybe an IMSB upgrade.
Replace towards the gt4 (if my allocation comes through)

About $30k cheaper than the going rate of my spyder - nice little change towards the gt4 (if my allocation comes through).

Actually I believe that using side mirrors with a slight medial turning does not leave much of blind areas.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What's the going rate for a 2003 targa?
The one I'm looking at is white and very clean. Has full service records, rms IMS have been handled. Independent dealer is checking if clutch and belts have water have been replaced. 56,000 miles. Also has an upgraded stereo fwiw.
Asking is $30k.
Part of me is thinking of holding out for a turbo, but this is a great looking car.
Thanks!
The targa is the black sheep of the lineup because people can't decide what it is for value purposes. Is it a coupe or a cab? $30k is very fair for that year and mileage. I've seen many 04's go for mid $30's with around 20-30k miles.
I would hold out for the turbo though.
You can not go wrong with the Targa. I have had my 03 8 years now and still cannot get over how beautiful it is. $30K would be a good price for a well optioned Targa. Look for the full leather interior with the stitching on the dash above the gauges.

Thanks for the help guys. Yes, car is optioned very nicely. For me the biggest plus is that it has complete service history.
Went to drive it today, three things surprised me (all compared to my 987 spyder)
1. The 3.6 pulls slower than my current 3.4, at least in the low end
2. You can't see anything out the back with the roof 'down'
3. It doesn't sound as beefy as I thought a 911 would
Things I liked
1. Great feel, steering wheel communicative
2 much smoother ride than the spyder
3 beautiful car
4. Back seats
5. About $30k cheaper than the going rate of my spyder - nice little change towards the gt4 (if my allocation comes through).
Will have to give this some thought - overall I like the spyder more, but as I'm looking for something cheaper, it seems like a good option.
Agree with the issues you mentioned.
However, I think that the advantage of opening the rear and having access to the cabin is much bigger than the disadvantage of lower visibility. Actually I believe that using side mirrors with a slight medial turning does not leave much of blind areas.
I love my Targa even owing it for 8 days! Lol
Go for it!
Depending on how motivated the seller is , you should be able to get for at least 10% below asking. I love my '02 targa - hatch and glass/open roof are great. Yes it is not an optimized track car, but more room than cab so better for touring and less theft issues in the parking lot. Btw - it runs around the track just fine - and you can always do the " fister" mod if you want better exhaust sound ... If ims was done that is a plus , else you might want to budget for that when clutch is due. Get oil filter inspected for debris during ppi ...
First off pay no attention to PORCAR comment. $30k is the correct ballpark maybe a bit high. I paid $27,500 for my heavily optioned (MSRP $91,190) 2002 Targa a little over two years ago with 62k on the clock. The upside of a Targa is a brighter interior, a roof that actually lets in some air, and a sometimes very useful hatch. Downside 150 lbs heavier than a coupe and slightly less rigid. On a scale of 1-10 if a coupe is a 10 and a cabrio is a 5 I'd say a Targa is an 8 stiffness wise.
If you were planning on a turbo, I'd stick to that game plan. Paitence sucks but in the long run you will be glad you held off for the turbo. If you havnt test driven a turbo you need to, it will literally get you hooked. I drove a handful of 996 models during my initial hunt, and the turbo for me was just in another league.
I Agree! Not Sure Why some of these other guys are saying $28-30k is about Right for this car & its miles! You can get them for $21-23k All Day Long! Just Depends on if you're willing to shop around a lil'! GL!
Anytime I do an price check on targas I fins the prices are a little above coup and cab pricing of similar years and mileage. I also only ever see silver and black. Well, not ever, but most of them seem to be those colors.
BTW here are pics of the car. Alex, the guy that owns Elite, is a real stand-up guy. Literally one of the nicest guys you can meet!

Looks nice. Price of 26K should be OK. It does not have full leather, just the seats. Love the white targa with the black and white look.

I think mileage, condition, options and service history tell the tale here. I'm shopping a targa right now that is asking $23.5 with higher mileage. I'll prolly get it for around $21k. Guessing for ~$30k asking it will need to be well optioned, very clean, low miles, with full service history, and maybe an IMSB upgrade. Absent that stuff, keep shopping.
Black sheep ???? Poo Poo on you
We love our Targa and I always get comments from both P-car people and others how nice it looks.
C2's, C4's, Cabs and Turbos and a dime a dozen. They only made about 500 Targa's in 2004
May even be worth more one day.
