Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am having a plastic scoop that was hanging almost on the ground replaced. It looked like it was an air scoop, what does it do?

POST 2Original post

Picture would help. Could be a brake cooling duct. Could be a piece of an underbody cladding panel.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To late for the picture as I dropped it off at the indie here to get the part and replace. A brake cooling duct makes sense, I'll ask what it does when I pick the car up.

POST 4Original post

A brake cooling duct forces air onto the brakes to cool them. Probably not an issue on your average 35mph jaunt to get milk and bread, but very important on track.

POST 5Original post

But brake cooling is done by fin connected tot he control arm. Naca duct like what I have on the C4 is to cool the front diff, but that is part of the under belly pan

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got my car back today. It was not a scoop that was hanging down, it was an air deflector. Our cars at least my 2000 coupe has two of them. They actually deflect the air that comes out of the radiators around the front tires. They can get torn up easily on steep driveways. I tore them up on a driveway that made me more aware of where I drive since then. They are not really necessary but since the car was designed with them I wanted to keep them. I also had some screens flat black powder coated and put in the openings in front of the radiators to help keep them clean. Its 110 here in Vegas and the car still run with the needle only getting to the zero of the 180 on the temp gauge. Had the car detailed again while at the shop. I feel so lucky to have one of these cars whenever I drive it.
