Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
My seat was making crunching noise - turned out to be empty plastic water bottle down there !
Leading evidence: 'empty plastic water bottle down there' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Raise the seat and check the rails for signs of lube.

But I decided to lube rails anyway while was was down there - would highly recommend wirth hhs-k lubricant over wd40.

Once you've identified the spot that's causing the noise, I'd use a lubricant that will 1) reduce the friction/quiet the noise, and 2) stay put and not drop/drip on the carpet.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was moving both front seats up and back during cleaning and a loud groaning sound was very evident. Common sense tells me to lube the seat rails with something and then move the seats forward and back to work the lube in. Any suggestions on what to use are appreciated.
Porsche parts department manager might be able to tell you what lube to use if there is any lube necessary for the rails.
I'm not sure the rails require lube. If not then the seat gear motor/drive would be making the noise.
Raise the seat and check the rails for signs of lube. IF there is any it probably is grease. Reach up and see if you can get some on a finger. If it is grease probably just plain old grease would do but who knows? See your local Porsche parts department manager.
Do not use WD-40. WD-40 is -- no offense meant to anyone -- is what you use if you don't know what to use.
One needs to find out what if any lube is called for in this particular application and use that or something comparable.
I remember seeing a dirty white looking grease on a seat rail of one of my cars a few years back.
I don't recall if it was one of my Porsches or not though.
I would not use anything on these rails. Anything used would attract dirt and grit being so close to the carpets and probably make things worse over time. If the sound is annoying to you I would suggest you remove the seats from the rails and brush and vacuum the rails on the floor and under the seat. I mean, once set, how often do you have to move the seats anyway? Thats OIMHO for what it's worth.
Wow...it's pretty easy to overthink something this simple. Once you've identified the spot that's causing the noise, I'd use a lubricant that will 1) reduce the friction/quiet the noise, and 2) stay put and not drop/drip on the carpet. Good Luck
White Lithium does not melt at temps seen in the interior of any car even down here in Southtown. But a quick removal of seat spray with WD-40 and rush out all the crud the grease re-install is the most complete way.
Don't use a ton but rather an acid brush and VERY light coat to the contact surfaces. NOT EVERYWHERE
In cases where oil/grease would exacerbate dirt accumulation, like the tubes on the spoiler and slides on the seats. I often use spray floor wax. It penetrates tight areas, the and the solvent dries out leaving the wax behind to lubricate. (Not for IMSBs)
My passenger seat makes a pretty awful groaning noise too, kinda pulses in intensity as it moves forward or back. I haven't had time to figure out where exactly it comes from so let me know what you find out or what you end up doing. Seems unneccessary to remove the seat but gotta do what ya gotta do
There is a trick though...
Grease really doesn't need to be in any other place than where it is needed.
Spray it on, wipe up the excess, and you're good to go.
Like on a bike chain, the rollers are the only place where it's required, the rest of the chain can be dry.
Anyone care to post the details of the TSB...I am a member of RennTech and would gladly contribute 25 dollars because you have to be a contributing member to access TSB but their only form of payment is Paypal. As someone who has had their identity compromised in the past I try to limit my exposure and do not use PayPal. Thanks for any help.
My seat was making crunching noise - turned out to be empty plastic water bottle down there ! But I decided to lube rails anyway while was was down there - would highly recommend wirth hhs-k lubricant over wd40. I also used it on my glass sliding patio door - months later there is no significant dirt buildup on the rail and still runs like it is on Teflon. A number of euro parts specialists like Fcp carry this stuff on-line ...
