Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I say sort of in that I've listened to a couple of other engines running both were diagnosed with a bad IMSB and in those cases it was very clear something was wrong inside the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don't ask me why I am looking at engines. But I saw this on on ebay and clicked on the video and there is a tapping by the alternator. You have to follow the link and then scroll down for the video. http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-Carrera-R...d2a2c7&vxp=mtr Is that bad?

POST 2Original post

The rapid clicking noise toward the end of the video sounds like the evap regen valve. However, I seem to hear some dull and faint knocking noise at around 9s and some abnormal bearing like noise at 43-52s.

POST 3Original post

One question that I have is how do you know the engine in the clip is the same engine listed for sale? It is always tricky to comment on engine noise. It is best if one can be at the engine and better locate the area various noises are coming from. This is going to sound like I'm attempting to impress you with my over the 'net diagnostics but I sort of hear, think I hear, some deep bearing sound. A noise that suggests IMSB to me. I say sort of in that I've listened to a couple of other engines running both were diagnosed with a bad IMSB and in those cases it was very clear something was wrong inside the engine. But I was at the car under the car and could hear the noise from all angles. Also, there was no revving of the engine. Still early on I hear something to me that doesn't sound like it is coming from the accessory drive system. What are the circumstances of the engine? No need to reply, my questions are just to make you think. How did the engine come up for sale? Wreck? What are its miles? Any other details you know or can know about the engine? Can you drop the oil filter housing and check its contents? Have a magnet on a stick to drag through the oil and see what you get.
