Can someone recommend a big brake kit to suit a '98 C2?
Leading evidence: 'Recommend big brake kit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend big brake kit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
Can someone recommend a big brake kit to suit a '98 C2? I'd rather stay with the wheels I have now (OEM Porsche), but I'm thinking the options will be limited if I stay on 18"s.
Can I assume a GT3 kit will just bolt straight on, or will there be "issue"...?
Or should I pursue an after market Brembo kit?
I have a set of 6 pot VWR callipers (front) and 2 piece discs (F&R) (rear callipers are single piston) on my Passat R36 wagon and they fit nicely on the HRE R40's at 18".
That car stop amazingly well, and it was worth every cent, but when I drive the C2 I find the brakes lacking somehow...
Thoughts?

Just an FYI, the GT3 calipers will not bolt to your C2 model. You will need Turbo or C4S spindles for it to bolt up. Even then, you will have to swap out the hard brake lines too.
As the other post mentioned, the stock calipers should be fine if you pick a good pad and fluid combo for most driving, other than professional events.
One of the reasons of going with GT3 is if you need additional fade resistance that the stock setup can't offer and/or primarily the brake pedal feel that the 6 smaller pistons can offer that the stock can't. I know some drivers are very sensitive to brake feel, especially when it comes to trail braking and modulation. In this regard, the additional confidence that this kind of setup can offer them can ultimately translate into better track times.

996 Turbo big reds seem like an easy upgrade (probably need aftermarket mounting adapters) and retain stock wheels.
FYI on the full on brembo kits, they are MASSIVE. You'll likely need aftermarket wheels to clear them.

As far as your current C2's setup - maybe there's an issue with the brakes that need to be resolved?
Even when my C4's brakes are hot enough to be REALLY stinky, I can still get on the brakes hard enough to get ABS firing. On a couple of events, I've taken the 996 from 6,000 feet up to 8,500 feet and then back down to sea level in about 30 minutes, over 35-40 miles of mountain roads (i.e. averaging well over a mile a minute on roads with many curves marked at 15-30 MPH). In every case, the C4 has still had brake left at the end.
This isn't an "well, you're obviously stupid and don't need a BBK" - if you WANT a BBK, more power to you. However, if there's something not quite right with your existing setup, maybe we can help you nail it down and get you the performance you want without shelling out the AU$$$ for the kit.
They are not an easy upgrade for a C2 nor one that really makes sense IMO.
The stock GT3's are as good if not better than the Brembo Aftermarket kits for this car and will fit under all 18" wheels.
You have to explain whats lacking. If you want your car to stop shorter, buy stickier tires. If you want more initial bite, get different pads. If its mushy you might need a brake flush or MC or something replaced.
