Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I do have a cheap Chinese knock-off cable (PIWIS), and I am running the software that they supplied with it (I believe it is Ver.

A friend of a friend is selling it...bought one for my uncle to reset his 07 boxster tpms warning light, downloaded v5.0 for free from durametric official site, and it worked just fine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's complete ****. Comes with 3.something Durametric software, which allows you to do approximately nothing (personal experience on my '99 C2). Bought the same thing from Amazon, sending it back.
this is not a bad product.
you can reset most if not all the warning lights.
also usefull to read error code from CEL
I think if you are gonna work on the car, you need it.
I wish they would have emulated the FULL PIWIS functions but this is just a small part of what the dealer can do.
Yep I think that the only problem ppl have w it is you can do more than three VINs on it. I have a MacBook and created a virtual pc and downloaded the latest version of it
The cable I was sold wouldn't work with the latest software (version 6). Would work with version 5 but as I said before the functionality was so crippled as to be useless to me. Was able to pull DME info and data however - if that's all you're looking to do maybe it's worth the $40 or whatever.
I do have a cheap Chinese knock-off cable (PIWIS), and I am running the software that they supplied with it (I believe it is Ver. 5 of Durametric). The reason why *I* bought it was to
reset the airbag warning light
because I was messing with the steering wheel and forgot to disconnect the battery.
Worked just fine to reset the a/b code. And, much cheaper than paying the dealer $180 for the same procedure.
Just sayin'.
For what its worth, this knock-off was able to reset my airbag light for a total outlay of $43. My 993 came back from some simple repairs with the light illuminated. Of course the garage know nothing about it and when asked said "common to the 993, we didn't do it".
The software installed says "durametric for porsche vVersion 3.0.15.0" which was downloaded from their site. Sadly I did not take a screenshot or copy the fault codes which appeared for the air bag unit before I cleared them. I suspect that the functionality is limited due to the age of the software, when plugged in I only saw the following items to review / clear, and my exact recollection of the numbers following the modules is not clear:
DME 5.0
DME 5.5
Air bag 02
Airbag 04
Climate Control
[perhaps one other I cannot recall]
With the software I could only read fault codes for each of these item and then clear them. I went through each of them to see what other contents were shown and they all save for the airbag 04 showed "no fault" and the Climate Control had a whole page of errors of something like "left flapper valve value implausible". The air con wiorks fine so I left this alone.
I only bought this for the air bag light and it served my purpose. I would not know what to do with other fault codes if I had them.
Worked for me
but YMMV

None of those are PIWIS cables in the slightest. Mainly knock off previous gen durametric as others have pointed out. If you need to read and reset a code it does work.

You guys using bootleg cables with Durametric's software suck. Durametric does the work and should reap the reward. People on this forum will drop $1000+ for a set of N-rated tires but won't shell out $287 for the enthusiast version of the product that will save you countless dollars in the long run? Grrrrrrrr.

Thats not possible. The 996 threads only show up when searching for IMSB issues. But you do sound like the typical Porsche owner if that makes you feel better.
The Chinese piwis cable cracks durametric version 3.0.15,works for some Porsches, but not the newer cars. A friend of a friend is selling it...bought one for my uncle to reset his 07 boxster tpms warning light, downloaded v5.0 for free from durametric official site, and it worked just fine.

That's less than a dinner with Wife and a couple kidz at a halfway decent restaurant...
And I thought this was going to be a useful forum, seems all I've found is a bunch of social misfits. Where are the folks like ya find at the Porsche 356 Registry? Isn't there a group of grownups who enjoy their toys and share tech wisdom amongst the faithful, even those who enjoy these computer managed Porsche beastees? I thought this was rennlist.com.
Did you have a question? If you have a question, and you post it in a semi-intelligible manner, odds are that you'll get an informative response. In addition to those of us who have extensive general knowledge, there are also a number of folks here who can answer just about ANY technical question you can cook up.
I'm sorry if we have not met your expectations for what an Internet car forum should be. Perhaps you should just fire up your walker and head back over to the 356 registry.
I truly hate to disappoint someone who has contributed SO MUCH to Rennlist and, more specifically, the 996 community. When I see someone like you with a tremendous post count, suggesting that you have been sharing knowledge with countless Rennlisters, I feel bad that we have not reciprocated.
He's not even a paying member and expecting the world for nothing. lol
When something's free, I don't expect too much and I certainly do not complain at free things.
Two posts total since joining in 2011...the first is a novel complaining about his Cayenne's taillight, and the second is here, carping about decorum on Rennlist.
At the point half of your posts are just useless complaining, aren't you part of the problem?
I guess I'll subscribe for notification to this thread since he only averages a post every 5 years. I expect a scathing response sometime in mid 2020...
