Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It gets pretty hot here in Bakersfield, but is not 116 degrees as indicated on the dash read our. Bad sensor? Skeeters

POST 2Original post

Check the front bumper to see if the ambient air temp sensor has come out of the mounting grommet and is sitting directly on the bumper material.

POST 3Original post

Very often I note that after sitting in the sun for several hours the temp sensor shows it being much hotter than it is. Like maybe the air temp is 92 and the temp sensor shows 99/102/103 when the car is first started. A few minutes of driving and it goes back down to normal air temp. I have also noted that, aside from sitting in the hot sun, the air temp sensor reading is darn accurate. Like Schnell said, make sure the sensor is properly seated in the front bumper bracket. It is the little pointy thing in the front bumper passenger side air intake. It is easy to knock it loose when washing the car.

POST 4Original post

Happens with any car sitting in the sun. Check it after driving a few minutes.

POST 5Original post

Mine did this a few months back, all I had to do was change the sensor in the front bumper, seems like it was 7 bucks or something like that, and when you look it up, it says its a part for the Cayenne. Once I changed it out, it was back to reading the normal temps.

Had this happen 2 summers back with the ambient temperature reading unmeasurable after sitting in traffic for a while. Reclipping the sensor into it's correct holder all was well again.
