Suspected cause
Yeah she could get away with that because she was Janis Joplin and it was the 60's!
Leading evidence: '60's' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '60's' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace are the smoked corner lights' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Alrighty, this past week has given us several premier examples to get this thread started.
1. A 6K POS with "Custom" paint (i.e. a faded, water-spotted, filthy coating of grime), "custom" headlight covers (i.e. cheapo Chinese Ebay plastic thingies) over lenses so faded that they emit the same amount of light as a black hole, and RED-painted calipers (i.e. fake upgrade), and the ever-popular "t
r
iptronic." Custom exhaust to make it sound like a motorcycle. Dents and weird wing no extra charge. Floor and seat trash also included. Never been driven or parked on a paved surface.
2. For those that can afford nearly 50% more, step up to this beauty for $8,500. Don't expect the convertible top to convert, fugget about opening the windows or driving in the rain. Again, dents at no extra charge. Fortunately, prior to offering for sale they removed the badgers that were apparent having some sort of mating fight in it. Guaranteed to smell like dirty gym socks that have been burried in a coffee can for six months. Custom Armor All coating on the 18-year-old tires.
what the hell happened? I hope there wasn't a passenger.
That passenger side A pillar didn't fare very well. The roof just collapsed. Any idea what speed it was going and what it hit?
Nicely done Mike. I especially like the bit about badgers! That's actually a good possibility...
You're going to drive DT to drink with that last submission!
I would offer the $6k guy $3k...for $100 I would have it repainted gloss white. With exhaust and intake, the car would be a perfect Zero-****s-given 996. I bet it sounds like a cup car going down the street. I would rock it.
Meteor. One in a million shot I tell ya.
That passenger side A pillar had a 3000 pound car traveling at about 65 mph land on top of it. I think it did ok. The passenger and I meet up for lunch about 5-6 times a year. He's doing great.
True. And I think the front bumper still has another round left in it. For the second time, I went and checked prices of new ones and decided this one could be fixed.

It looks them same as the lower half of mine. Mine is a Strosek, but I have a riser on top of it. This pic is from the Strosek site, this is the wing I have.
LOL, I already won my lottery when I walked away from that without a scratch.
To be clear, what happened there is I ran out of talent at a bad time in a bad spot. Then I got to experience how quickly it goes pear shaped when that happens.
Well...this explains a lot to me. As a newcomer I had no idea why you were depicted in Kalish's member video as you were! Now I know "the rest of the story".
Wowza!
It can happen to the best of us.. I used to do a bit more road cycling than I do now, but given enough mileage even the best of riders will get caught by the wrong set of circumstances. Glad your lesson was only expensive.
That car makes me feel bad for Taco wings everywhere and I'm considering ripping ours of to remove risk of being associated to that!
I love the "All natural options" sticker. That is priceless on that car...
Love the custom pro vented seats, the highly customized steering wheel with radically off-set inserts....that kind of craftsmanship is practically a lost art. I'm at a loss as to why the seller did not highlight the engine bay and showcase what are likely to many marvelous performance enhancements....

Don't say "I'm sure" but my best guess is an homage (pr: oh-majjj) to the Janis Joplin 356. Google says sold for $1.76 mil. gulp

Opinions on the quality of this op-art job are not in my domain. Having grown up in the 60s, in SoCal, I saw a couple of these make-overs in my youth. The best I can recall is an early Citroen 'duex-chavoux'(CV-2) in psychedelic colors.
Yup, when I saw this I thought of the Janis Joplin 356 also. There was a "Chasing Classic Cars" episode on this car; IIRC it included the auction you mentioned.
Truth to tell, I'd rather drive that op-art C4S than something like this:

BAT eat your heart out!!!
And "Bring a Trailer" means... you MUST bring a trailer!!!
Unique features:
1. Custom pinstripe around the fender
2. Vinyl cover included. Sorry it's sectional. That stuff is expensive!
3. Complimentary bumper off and engine out service
4. Becker radio needs the code
5. IMS has been removed along with the RMS, AOS, and POS
6. Hood has been removed for better air circulation
7. Side mirrors removed for better aerodynamics
8. Has never seen rain cause it doesn't have eyeballs
9. This is not just a garage queen... more like the garage goddess
10. Please no joy rides. Serious buyers only.
Definitely a strong entry in the Worst 996 category, but I'll always give extra credit to the ones where somebody spent thousands of dollars and the car still looks awful.
That said, this one is pretty impressive. The only thing I really can't fathom is how the wheels survived.
"engine runs but is very noisy. I was told it most likely is a bad intermediate shaft bearing? "
"The body is solid, however the hood has some damage and the vehicle has scratches and dings all around. "

I don't know, the matt black one will be hard to beat. The black cabriolet from NY definitely looks like a POS though. It may not even make a good parts car.
Images of this one show up around Halloween super imposed on a pumpkin. I had no idea it was real. It is real and I weep

I love the buy it now price and the salvage title just rounds it all out
I feel like he got ripped off with his 16k interior and 14k paint job. I know if I paid 16k for an interior it would have to have at least one keg and two hookers
Every time I hear someone say "long story short" it reminds me of my uncle David. He will tell you a story for 30 minutes, with no path or resolution in sight and all of a sudden "Long story short, xx". Hilarious guy he is.
Substitute Orange Porsche in the commercial. You know it had hard life and he had his *** kicked everywhere he came with his "GT3" and "break lights".
You Tube
We have a new contender from a new poster that mistakenly thought the GWITF was a helpful place...
Somebody apparently asked what a 996 crossed with a SC crossed with a 997 crossed with a GT3RS would look like. Rather than the smack that said questioner should have gotten, the above has been foisted upon the eyes of the world...
Ahh the 996 Custom Classic. Sure to be a collector car in the not too distant future. He did a decent job updating the headlights. The other stuff.....
I normally like my classic cars to be stock in appearance, or close to it. I hate to admit it, but I generally like the front end body kit. The thing I would change are the smoked corner lights. I think smaller clear lights would look better. Those are also my favorite 18" wheels. It looks like it is reversible.
That's at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia.
Chances are he lifted off throttle going down "The Chute" (Turn 4 to 5). All your instincts tell you to let off the throttle down that section. You need to stay on the gas.
Lift the throttle and the backend of the car comes right out! Then you hit the tire wall and the car flips.
Even though the post below is unquestionably the best of the entire thread, it presents a bit of an ethical dilemma whether or not it is appropriate to "like" that post
.
Not a 996 but shares our headlights and is a 2004. I'm not sure whether to hate it or submit an offer as a company vehicle:
