Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

BTW its also called the Halls sensor and the name is used interchangeably
Leading evidence: 'Use interchangeably' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check banks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The RoW cars only have one cam sensor, it is my interpretation that two are really only required to make sure emissions are in check for both banks.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a MY99 996. The check engine light came on for my bank 2 cam sensor. I have the new sensor here but cant find the sensor on the engine. I saw a pic of the driver side (bank 1) sensor but not the passenger side. The first pic is from the bottom of the car, is this the spot? it is the back of the head, closest to the bumper. Second pic is from up top and the third pic is the sensor I got, is it the right one? Thanks for any help!!
thanks Chris, I found that pic also but it is the Bank 1 sensor (drivers side) and I need the bank 2 sensor. I read that 1 is on the tranny side like that and the other is on the water pump side but I can not find it! I think it is right below the coolant hose next to the motor mount but cant get under it to check and it without pulling the hose and draining the coolant. I hope I can figure this out soon, I hate driving with my CEL on.
I couldn't find it in the service manual or PET, just a reference to a Camshaft Position Sensor notch which is under a "cover"
GL.
BTW, why are you replacing the sensor?
you are right ....is is behind the large coolant hose, might as well bite the bullet and pull the top end off and pull it out of the way...l. BTW the cam 2 sensor is not necessary and is only a US requirement. so running with a cam 2 sensor CEL is not a problem, BTW its no biggie to drain the coolant and put it right back in.
The bank 2 cam position sensor is on the same spot of 4-6 as it is on 1-3 (bank 1). The 1-3 head and 4-6 head are almost identical. So you are right it is behind the coolant hose and under a bunch of stuff. A little hard to get at.
Not sure that I agree with 9nine6 that the bank 2 sensor is not required. It serves the same function as the bank 1 sensor.
The RoW cars only have one cam sensor, it is my interpretation that two are really only required to make sure emissions are in check for both banks.
I don't think you would get that code due to a faulty sensor (too low would be more likely IMO). I assume you've cleared the code and checked to see if it came back?
Good luck, and let us know what you find.
