Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'cost factor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cost factor' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace from the e30' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just curious, why did Porsche get rid of the full window frames that totally surrounded the glass? I wonder if would have helped with keeping the old thud the doors use to make. Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

They look out of place on a convertible. That is the only reason I can think of. BMW did this, too, when changing from the E30 to the E36.

The Porsche convertibles have never had them, but the coupes did up to the 996, right? One reason could have been the need for the triangular vent window that was common back then on cars. Lots of them didn't have AC. Another is probably a cost factor. Maybe a weight savings too?

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 18317800

The earlier Porsche convertibles up to 993's had the front section with the vent windows. It looks out of place. The BMW E30 had this setup as well, the front section only. Most pre-1995 convertibles had the front section, as I recall. The VW Cabrios had it, MGB's, Fiat Spyder, it was a relic of the 60's. With the windows that pop down when you pull the handle it's not really needed anymore.

POST 5Original post

It's aerodynamically desirable to have windows flush with bodywork; the frames preclude the flushest fitment. So: losing weight, drag, production cost, and wind noise probably drove the decision.
