I just had to clear my brain of the terror of looking at it and simpateko probably ran into the same problem.

I don't mean quite like that, just using inspiration from older models.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning/Afternoon/Evening all, I'm currently a 951 owner and poster from across the pond in the UK, but I'm planning a change in the not-so-distant future. Early 996 models are pretty good value over here, and I really like the simplicity of design on the early cars, without all the spoilers and wings. I'm also a fan of the VeeDub tuning arena, and would like to do a VeeDub-style 996 - I'm thinking low suspension, 18in Fuchs and some smoothed bodywork to start with. I just wondered if any of you guys know of anything similar I could use for inspiration? Thanks

POST 4Original post

I was gonna do a what, then I thought what......so 2 whats seemed an overload and I just went to look at Ferds new GIF a while longer

POST 6Original post

Nice looking car, but wouldn't that solid spoiler in the back create a ton of wind noise?

POST 7Original post

that car comes in ONE color... and one color only !! pretty though

POST 8Original post

OP wanted of a Vee-dub look, kinda like a hella flush..... like what Ed said a what, what. OP if you find what your looking for.... please post it here and educated the old timers here.

POST 11Original post

when you say hella and Porsche in the same sentence, this is what I think of

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now I get the hella-flush thing. I don't mean quite like that, just using inspiration from older models. The 997 Sport Classic is not a million miles off what I'd be aiming for, still a few too many wings and scoops for me though. I guess I'll just have to use my imagination...

POST 13Original post

My son has a 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle done in 1973 911 Carrera RS style: Signal Yellow (more orange than yellow, actually), duck tail rear spoiler, slammed front end (that means he lowered it to the max), disc brakes, dechromed, 356 SC hood handle, front Cibie rally lights, Fuchs alloys, full custom interior with a dash that looks like a 914-6 and has the 914-6 VDO gauges, custom performance seats, heavily modded 2.4L engine (from a 914 2.0 4cyl engine) that includes a 911-style fan shroud and generator, and much more. The paint job includes a large, fat, curvy black arrow that is the same style as the road sign that shows Curves Ahead. Starts at the lower front of the hood, goes up and over the roof, and down the back over the spoiler.

POST 15Original post

He frequents this board (although he mostly sticks to the 944 forums). I'll call him, and see if he can post some up sometime today.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anybody any pictures of a 996 on Fuchs replicas? I've searched both here and google but to no avail?

POST 17Original post

here are the pics of my bug that were requested.

POST 18Original post

Sorry, couldn't resist. And, can't say that I'd be a fan of the hella-flush look, but its your dime.

POST 21Original post

I guess that's ^^^ kind of an early "German Look"? I've got polished Cookie Cutters on my '62 but it's Cal Look (essentially resto mod). I've never seen a 996 in Cal Look style, but actually I do think the 996 soft lines borrow a little from the 356, so you may be on to something....?

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My thoughts exactly! What do you think? A bit rough-and-ready but you get the general idea...

POST 23Original post

This guy does forged Fuchs in late model fitments--so he says. http://public.fotki.com/Iozzio/my-cars/17-fuchs/ He posted in the 997 forum and got the expected huffing and whining responses. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...lashbacks.html It's certainly a specific taste, and how it really works on late cars remains to be seen. I would have loved to have a set of appropriately upscaled Fuchs (not tiny centers with big rims) on my 993. Not so sure on a 996. From his album, here's the best indication of how it would look:

POST 24Original post

Judging by today's rims, I think Turbo Twists are pretty retro!

POST 26Original post

I actually really like the fuchs on the 996, though it looks sort of odd on the boxster. I also agree that the turbo twists look very nice on a 996, my car has only grown on me: The front fender lines from several angles remind me a lot of a 993 twin turbo, but it's very hard to capture in pictures, also the car does indeed have a bit of the 356 thing going for it. That said, I didn't like how mine looked with 17 inch wheels at all...

POST 27Original post

What about a ramp of rally headlight over the hood and a martini paint or may be just those two chrome additional high beam they used to have on the 1960's cars ... that would be cool

POST 28Original post

I say go for it.....I went from a 944 and dove into the audi/vw scene then dove back into porsche...its all VAG and all good. You will get mixed responses here becuase of the mixture of purists and not-so purists. I like airbags and slammed suspensions and stretched tires but also know that with all of that there is a price to be paid...so find a balance between performance and looks and youll be ok. Basically the guys I hangout with have audis and vws and Im the black sheep....but its slowly being accepted that its all one big family. Cant wait to see what you can pull off with a 996.

It's highly misleading to say that Iozzio does "forged Fuchs" in late model fitments. His wheels are multipiece forgings--the original Fuchs windmills are single piece drop forged. He uses as his start model a 5.5 x 15 inch Fuchs wheel--and dimensionally, you can't just upscale it to a 19 inch rim. He goes as big as 17 inch right now. Not adequate for the 997 crowd (a 17 inch rim won't even fit over my brakes). FuchsRacing.com is about to release a true, single piece drop forged wheel in sizes that cater to the 997 and 996 crowds. Expect some action on the Fuchsracing.com site in a few weeks.

POST 30Original post

My 2002 with sport classic 2 wheels. I am trying to keep it very simple also. No wings, skirts, wipers or doodads for me either.

POST 31Original post

I wanted to forget about this one. I posted it in a 996 thread then simpateko made a 993 thread out of it. I just had to clear my brain of the terror of looking at it and simpateko probably ran into the same problem. It was a car for sale in Portland, Or-a-gun Oregon's craigslist. Everybody can suffer again.

POST 32Original post

Its amazing what somebody with more money than brains will do to a car. Phew!

POST 33Original post

Must be at least a few thousand dollars in tire gloss on the tires

POST 34Original post

That's my taste, too. I like this thread Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic and talent-less photographer...

POST 35Original post

The Sport Classics are now available from the dealer as a set only, with PS2's. The info says they are only for AWD, so the width and offsets probably won't work on a 996. It would be an expensive experiment though!

POST 36Original post

Anybody know what dealer cost is with the tires?

POST 37Original post

Your ride looks great Bruce...love those wheels.

POST 38Original post

Thanks, Barn. I actually think that the twists are the quintessential 996 wheel, aesthetically speaking, just like the Fuchs were for the 911. Some of the aftermarket setups guys have are sweet, no doubt, but I like my stealth fighter look.

POST 39Original post

Don't tell the air-cooled's that I think the Fuch's are ugly but something about putting them on a 996 looks really cool to me!

POST 40Original post

I just checked. The wheels come mounted with Michelin PS2's and can be had with TPMS or without. The information is unclear whether the wheels are 8.5 or 8x19 in the front, and 11 or 11.5 in the rear. Based on the fact that Porsche specifically says that these only apply to 997 C4/C4S/Targa4/Targa4S and Turbo's, I would guess that they are the wider 8.5 and 11.5" wheels. The offsets are probably et55 in the front and et50 in the rear. For this, Porsche is asking $6630. Chad
