Great day at the track after a long hiatus... My car is still not quite ready for testing but I went out to see and hang out with some friends at a private test and tune track day. Shout out to my buddy Bill for graciously letting me put his 996Cup through it's paces repeatedly during for the day and a very special thank you to Rob for letting me take his 992Cup out for a session. What an amazing experience! The comparisson between the classic 996Cup and Porsche's latest and greatest Cup is quite astounding.
I'm a 996 guy personally as I own one myself so the 996Cup feels very much at home for me. I love the old school experince of shifting and heel and toe. The 996Cup I drove today has a 5.5" triple clutch which makes it even more fun. By comparisson, the
992Cup borders on effortless, almost too effortless. The grip in immense on the 305/310 slicks and the new multilink front suspension technology is truly magnificent. Everything about the car is just about perfect, actually, it really is perfect. The seat is fully adjustable and can be reclined a bit for that custom position. The seating position is slightly lower than in a 996 but quickly feels totally natural. The pedal box is adjustable. The car is extremely easy to drive. The brake pedal is harder than is any car I've ever driven before. It takes a very deliberate press on the brake to get a result but the modulation is fantastic with absolutely zero fade. I drove it at about 6 or 7/10th in my estimation and the car was rock solid, not a hint of instability anywhere. I didn't want to push it harder as driving someone else's $350K car makes me nervous enough but I will say this car would be capable of obscene performance with more seat time and if driven closer to the limit. The experience was very much like a video game, effortless and very fast. The sound of the SuperCup exhaust is intoxicating. The 996Cup experience by comparison is old school which requires a lot more involvement and skill to extract max performance which is naturally far lower than on Porsche's latest weapon.
Here is a short clip of the flyby on the front and back straight. Cheers!

Hmmm.... Ripping a 6Cup and the spaceship 992 Cup around for a session each... YEAH ! I'd say sounds like a great day.
I love the 992, The details are forever, from photos, the quality of a factory built modern racing car shine through - just a very special machine.
While I am partial to the 996 cups, from the cage to the electronics, they are just dated - I am guilty of being a latest greatest guy when it comes to track weapon preferences and they fall short of scratching that itch for me.
Thanks for sharing John.
