I installed led running lights, but I can't remember the exact bulb type.

My heart sank when OP described his "aftermarket" headlights, because the '01 C2 I purchased on Tuesday has the same thingy that his arrow is pointing toward in the pic, but it is supposed to have factory installed Litronics.

I have now been using these for a little over a month; so far so good but not an endorsement!

Oh,, when you use the tool to rotate the headlight out,, don't let the headlight fall on the ground,,, it kinda ejects on my car like a piece of toast in a toaster..
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is an aftermarket headlight on my 99 Carrera. Does anybody know where I can find the replacement LED highlighted? Is it easy to access under frunk?
I would bet you'll have to pull the light bucket just like a regular headlight service,, its in the owners manual..
that looks like a "T" series bulb, hopefully, because the one in my factory Halogen headlight is un-obtainium in a LED..
And the little halogen that it uses is woefully dimm..

1999 MK1, but the previous owner put these aftermarket headlights out on. He said he got the running light bulbs on superbrightleds.com, but I cannot find the flat wedge type bulb there.
Used these on my 03 C4S, works like a charm:

Looking on ALI express, looks like Metty will have to pull out one of the ones in the car to see the base,, they seem to sell both the Bayonet and T10 style that have the paddle style illuminator ,, just guessing casue in the pick the reflector hides the connection end.
When I was changing one of the Halogens out, it got away from me and went inside the housing,,
took me about 10 minutes to rotate the housing just right to get it out.. And of course this was at the autopart store in the parking lot..
Much amusement had by the counter folks..
Are the aftermarket light buckets the same as factory other than the look?
Mine the bucket has to come out to access the lights..
The factory tool kit has a special wrench for it..
I hadn't even noticed those little ones hiding in there. Ordered something off Amazon this morning that looks like it might fit the flat socket. 10 bucks for 4, and I hadn't bought any parts all day....
I'll post when I have a verdict.
Looks like I got over excited and put the wrong ones in my cart, maybe they'll work in one of my other cars though.
Even sadder, once I opened up the lights it turns out I just have the dummy plastic plugs in there.
These are the ones I was suspecting might work --

My apologies for resurrecting an old thread but it has caused me much confusion and anguish; hopefully my post will clear things up a bit. I found this thread while searching for the correct (or best) bulb to replace what Porsche (or others) calls the "city light", "parking light" or "position light"; that tiny bulb directly beside and slightly above the high beams, on the inward side of the headlight assembly. My passenger side is out. Some on this thread responded as though that was what OP was referring to, and that's cool because I have ordered the leds R324U recommended. Thanks!
My heart sank when OP described his "aftermarket" headlights, because the '01 C2 I purchased on Tuesday has the same thingy that his arrow is pointing toward in the pic, but it is supposed to have factory installed Litronics. Thankfully, it does indeed have Litronics, and OP may not have aftermarket headlights. Below is a picture in my '01 996 manual showing the thingy. When I noticed it I assumed it had something to do with headlight adjustment (there are black marks on the white tab; more show on my driver's headlight than the passenger on my vehicle). Indeed this fig. on page 210 of the manual is pertaining to headlight adjustment, although no mention is made of said thingy.
It would be great if someone could identify exactly what this is, and thanks for a great forum.
Not at all meant as a personal attack, I was happy for the link; but I got literally hours of use out of these before one stopped working. I have a '01 C2 with Litronics. I'm sure it's YMMV with a lot of these...
I have now been using these for a little over a month; so far so good but not an endorsement! Just another option for members...

Deleted because I was using a vpn and no pics showed up at all (Couldn't upload any either), making me crazy and paranoid. I still want to know what the thingy is in the headlight.
The item circled in the OP image is not a bulb.
I imagine it's a sensor, maybe it activates the motor when hibeams are engaged. The motor, or solenoid, lifts the low beams. The litronic headlights are pretty high tech be cautious when you are in there. I installed led running lights, but I can't remember the exact bulb type. A quick search or a visit to auto parts store with your vin will get you what you need
