Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

PS, you can get Boxster seat heat switches that have the picture right side up when installed behind the ashtray.
Leading evidence: 'Install behind the ashtray' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install behind the ashtray' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. The thermostat wire is neat, didn't know about that, I ran 3 wires for each switch as I was running out of room, the 2 outermost connectors on the switch are just for the interior lighting so I didn't bother with them, but will probably go back with the 5 core wire and redo it.

I used the spade connector trick to move the window switches up to the horseshoe, its real straightforward, just measure out how much wire length you need and crimp on the ends, there were pre-existing cutouts in the carpet which I used to route the wires under the shifter.

Suggestion
It certainly isn't as clean as having the right connector, but it's tight, decently sealed, and I only have two wires running from the front, past the shifter, to the back switches.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
None of my searches found an answer to this question; please help if you can:
My 2002 Carrera coupe (PCM, non-MOST, Bose) is about to lose its basically triple-DIN head unit and its lower console. I have gathered most of what I need, from Suncoast and Becker, to make this change as Factory as possible.
My seat heater switches are on the doomed console. I plan to move them to the blank locations behind the ashtray. What is the best (safe, tidy, reversible) way to make this change? Is there a factory wiring harness for powering those aft switch locations? If so, could you point me to it? If not, what materials and routes would you use to install seat heater switches in the rear console of your GT3-console-deleted 996?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
The wires won't be long enough. You will need to cut, splice, and extend them. That is what I did.
PS, you can get Boxster seat heat switches that have the picture right side up when installed behind the ashtray. I did this, too.
Good question.
Here's what I did. I didn't want to splice wires. Regular 1/4" spade connectors fit tightly into both sides of the Porsche switch connectors. I put those on each end of a 5-conductor thermostat wire (5 individually insulated, within one main insulation), per switch. Plus some heat shrink, both on the individual wires, and over the entire bundle at each connector, was the best I could do.
It certainly isn't as clean as having the right connector, but it's tight, decently sealed, and I only have two wires running from the front, past the shifter, to the back switches.
But others here are more clever than I am.
i'm getting a 996 in the next few days and want to do the console delete and it has the heated seat switches - i don't suppose you have any photos of the relocation you descibed?
Unfortunately, it seems that I don't have any final pictures of the wiring.
I really wish we could find a source for the original wiring connectors for both sides!
Someone who's clever with 3D printing and selling might make some??

It's been quite a while and I've since sold the car, but I believe I moved my seat heater switches to the horseshoe. You just had to re-route the wires so they reached easier, but no splicing or extensions required.
I'd be curious how you accomplished that as the stock wires aren't even close to reaching the desired location. I made a custom loom similar to what

did. I have to recheck my work because they were on full as soon as the ignition was on.
