Disconnecting the O2 sensors may not be necessary but you should keep an eye on them when lowering the engine to be sure they still have some slack.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I'm starting my coolant tank replacement. I'm going to document it in this thread. I have a few questions: 1. Do fuel lines really need to be disconnected? 2. Does the fuel rail nut have to come out? 3. Does the tank bracket need to come out? 4. Should the O2 sensor wires be unplugged? Any other words of advice would be appreciated. I have new Porsche tank and cap. Also, REIN motor mounts will be installed. And will replace the AOS coolant hose plastic coupler with the URO metal one. I am doing this on a 4 post lift.

POST 2Original post

I did mine a few months ago (2003 coupe): 1. I didn't have to 2. Same as #1. 3. Yes 4. Same as #1 It seems as each car is different as to what needs to be done. You will need to lower the engine. It is not an easy job but stick with it and you can do it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, tank is out....certainly frustrating. Fuel lines needed to be disconnected. fuel line nut stayed. bracket was removed. I unraveled the o2 sensor wires. I am going slow. Have 3 to 4 hours in so far. Here are some pics

POST 6Original post

Check the other thread where I modified the black bracket (that supports the expansion tank) to make installation easier. I think it really made the re-installation (and any future removals) really much easier.

THAT IS AN EXCELLENT IDEA! Thank you very much. I will report back on my success with this approach.

You do not have to modify or remove the tank bracket. If you remove the fuel rail cap, it will give you enough room to install the tank. I have done about a dozen of these, and now I can R&R in < 1 1/2 hours.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Frisbee. Your suggestion worked! Thanks Mfarrell. I agree with you. I am sure removing the fuel rail cap would have worked too. That is exactly where it was binding. That being said, I was concerned that it would be riskier and potentially damage something. I was able to put in both bolts on the tank bracket by pulling the tank out enough to reach back there. Here are some pics.
